Arbor Day, an annual national day celebrating the preservation and planting of trees, aligned perfectly this year with our latest tree planting on April 26, 2024. A beautiful Magnolia tree was planted in Anaheim’s Chaparral Park as a part of our Margie Hilgenfeld Tree Memorial Program. Knowing nothing about Newenham or where their friends were building, they picked a block within their budget and it happened to be across the road from their friends! “We lived together as roommates, and it was really easy doing it all together. While they were building, we were also building. We just helped each other and gave each other a bit of support during the whole building process,” says Alex. Another of Alex and Emma’s friends have also taken up residence at Newenham. Apart from the obvious attraction of having friends living within a stone’s throw of each other, Alex and Emma love the forethought that has gone into Newenham. The centrepiece of a community farm, market shed, café, and eventual restaurant that will utilise the farm’s produce all add to the attraction of being a part of a sustainable community. Yesterday, the Borough of Haledon and Braen Stone Industries had our 2nd Annual Earth Day Clean Up. ⚫⚪CLUB GROUNDS CLEAN UP⚫⚪ Today may have been a busy day on the field at Emmett Park, as we hosted our U8/10 Go Games this morning. However, it was just as busy off the field, as our ground maintenance group were hard at work from early morning, carrying out some essential maintenance to ensure that our club grounds are kept in fantastic condition. A huge word of thanks to all our volunteers involved in today's clean up. Your time and effort is greatly appreciated by all at Eskra Emmetts GFC and the local community. A word of thanks also to Niall Mellon of @RevampNI for supporting this mornings clean up with the power washing and cleaning around our club facilities. Even though here in Australia it's Sunday, April 28th marks World Safety at Work Day. In light of that we are sharing some top safety tips for placing a skip bin at your property whilst work is being undertaken there either by yourself or by contractors. Some important safety considerations when choosing a location on your property or work site: ✅ Proximity to the work for ease of loading. It's a good idea to get the bin put as close to the area work is being carried out as possible. This reduces the risk of manual handling injuries when moving waste and loading the bin. ✅ Leaving the bin in it's original location. Even if you have access to equipment large enough to move a skip bin, it's VERY important that you don't from a safety perspective. This protects our drivers when they arrive to collect the bin so they manoeuvre the truck and pick up the loaded skip safely. ✅ Grassed areas can be soft / unsafe and affect a drop off or pick up. We have had a lot of rain over the warmer months and this means that grassed areas can become soaked again and boggy easily. If this is the case, we will work with you to find the most appropriate spot for your skip to keep everyone safe and reschedule a drop off or pickup if necessary. ✅ Our experienced and highly skilled drivers will do their best to accommodate requests, but please be aware we can't place a bin under standard sized car ports, roof guttering, close to buildings, or under low tree branches. We recognise the need to provide the elders in our community with an opportunity and setting to socialise in an informally with their peers. Temples provide an opportunity for those that wish to, to connect with god, family gatherings provide a sometimes infrequent opportunity to connect with family members. SKLPC (UK) will now provide a regular opportunity for our elders to social and connect with other people starting Wednesday 22nd May 2024 at our Samaj in Northolt. We are in effect creating an elders social club, they will have opportunities to talk, play games, exercise, enjoy lunch together, meet new people, build new bonds. We hope this will go some way in improving the well being of our elders. This will all funded SKLPC (UK) as part of Manav Sewa initative.
