Friedrich Bebermeyer 1828 Germany - 1908 Friedrich was born to Johann and Dorothea (Nolting) Bebermeyer in January of 1828 in Germany. He immigrated to the states at age 23 and settled on a farm in Franklin County in 1849. He joined St. John's Evangelical Church at it's organization in 1854 and remained a faithful member for the entirety of his life. He married Wilhelmi Dierking in 1856. Together they had 12 children, Four sons, eight daughters, two sons died in infancy. He lost his wife in 1901. Friedrich was considered a man of noble character. He was looked fondly upon by his friends as a hospitable neighbor, and a true Christian. This event is part of the Ballarat Heritage Festival Talk Subject: Claire Adams & Mooramong Claire Adams Born in Canada in 1898, Claire Adams was a silent movie star and a role model for ‘the new woman’ of the 1920s. She was an innovator, world traveler, conservationist and philanthropist. In London, on April Fools day 1932, she married Scobie Mackinnon of Mooramong, near Skipton. Together they renovated the house in Hollywood Art Deco style, with no expense spared. I recently had to come to terms with a particular reality: “No one wants your old stuff.” In February we moved to a smaller office. Alison and I had 25 years of office stuff to pare down. We donated calculators, scissors, staplers, hole punches, and label makers (remember those?). Then we sold desks, chairs, couches, laptops, lamps, TVs, and even our coffee maker – all at bargain prices on Facebook Marketplace. Of course, there were items I refused to sell “on the cheap,” like my 14-year-old conference room credenza- I was determined to get top dollar for that. It was custom-designed, in perfect condition and happened to weigh over 350 pounds. Surely, someone would see what an amazing buy this is. I posted it. No interest. Still, I was so convinced of its inherent value that on moving day, I paid extra to have the movers put it in my garage at home – right on top of the storm shelter. No worries, my wife’s car will be fine in the driveway. Surely it would sell quickly. It did not. Days turned into weeks – still no interest. Deflated and depressed, I was about to call a donation center to haul it off when a prospective buyer messaged me. I cut a deal, and it was gone. Phew. Lesson learned. Sometimes, no one wants your old stuff. And my wife’s car is back in the garage. Things are better at home.

Minden fát nagyon megbecsülök itt, a kicsiknek drukkolok, a nagyokat csodálom, vagy csak simán örülök nekik. Külön megsüvegelem gondolatban azokat, akik extrém szitukban, erkélyeken, házak oldalában vagy teleszemetelve is odaköszönnek minden évben, vagy egyszercsak előbukkannak egy kerítés mögül, mint ez. A fotózás körülményei a szokásosak voltak, egy melós nap után a gyerekeket összeszedve, megfuttatva, kilevegőztetve egymillió cuccal jöttünk hazafelé. A foghíjtelek mellett is ugyanúgy mentünk el, mint minden nap, de a fára is ugyanúgy ránéztem, ahogy minden nap. Teljesen spontán jutott eszembe, hogy végre gyorsan lefényképezzem, a szemem sarkából láttam, hogy mellette már be van állványozva a fél ház. A falat meszelték, gondolom beázás volt vagy ilyesmi. A gyerekek nem örültek hogy megálltunk, nyűgösek voltak és éhesek, már nagyon haza akartak menni. Egy percre ugrottam így be a telekre, szaladtam is vissza. Másnap a fának hűlt helye volt. Three unidentified people visit the water feature at Mitch Park in the 1920s. The park was established in 1890 near Edmond’s natural spring. With the encouragement of John L. Mitch, citizens planted more than 400 trees, as the area was then mixed-grass prairie. The park, located between Campbell and Edwards off Broadway, was used for celebrations, speeches, and town events. By the mid-1950s, the land was mostly used as an athletic field by Edmond Public Schools, and town events shifted to Stephenson Park. In 1992, city voters funded a new park of 278 acres at Covell and Santa Fe. In 1994, city council named the park in honor of John L. Mitch, celebrating him as the “father” of Edmond’s first park and recognizing his many accomplishments as mayor and his efforts in helping develop the college.
Close Shave at Save-On-Foods ✂️ From March 14th to 27th, Save-On ran a “Round Up” campaign for BC Children’s Hospital. We run these campaigns 4 times per year and 100% of the funds go to BC Children’s Hospital. Customers can round up their grocery bill or donate in $2 increments to enter a draw within our store to win a $300 Save-on-Foods gift card. This time, Assistant Store Manager, Bud Lainey, wanted to do something to really raise the bar. He put forth to the cashiers that if we raised the most in our region, he would shave off his legendary beard in store. Our region consists of 16 stores, which includes all of the East Kootenay stores as well as Quesnel, Williams Lake, 100 Mile House, and all 5 of the Kamloops stores. The “Round Up” was a great success, with our region raising a company leading $39,139 for BC Children’s Hospital. Due to Bud’s promise, our cashier’s commitment, and the incredible generosity of the town of Golden, we raised the most in the region at $5,059. This beat out many stores much larger than ours. On the afternoon of April 18th, Giuseppe from Reflections Studio came to remove the beard. It created a great buzz around the store for both the staff and the customers. We are proud of our accomplishment to raise money for BC Children’s Hospital.
