May TBR ✨ This month I’m travelling to Spain, India, England, USA and Bosnia through books. I rarely ever buy books brand new. I recently thrifted this stack (+ a few others not pictured) for $40. There’s an amazing second hand book store and a thrift store near by. I definitely won’t be reading all of these in a month - packing up to move cross country + taking care of an 8 month old means I’ve been reading a lot slower lately! Have you read any of these? And which one should I pick up first?

Transit Tour with Mr Varghese and family would stay in my mind for a long time.It was my first tour with a Priest and we had a great conversation.He was sweet and patient answering my questions.They were on their way to India from USA.They wanted Kerala food.Dubai, now has everything that Kerala has ,including the weather!Yes ,UAE is getting more rain and becoming more green every year.Alhamdulillah /Thank God.Ignore the negative messages on social media during the last rain storm.Those are mostly keyboard warriors who stay outside UAE.The Real warriors were out in the street helping people.Government officers and commoners went out of their way rescueing stranded people.The truth of the matter is we have come to this world to be tested right.If no test ,how would we know how good are we at handling inexperienced situations!.Some days would be in our favour and some days would be against us.We have to take them both in a positive spirit.UAE culture and mindset is very strong.In the UAE we love Rain and we are expecting more in the future..Anyways,let me come back to our tour. Tenho andado a ler e a ver muitas coisas sobre judeus. Não foi de propósito, comecei porque encontrei o Violinista no Telhado no Prime, um musical que andava há anos para ver, e depois fui-me lembrando de outras histórias sobre judeus que tinha na tbr, e pronto, assunto puxa assunto... Bem sei que neste momento a internet anda muito polarizada e falar de judeus ainda nos merece uma acusação de sermos anti-Palestina. Acreditem, não é o caso. O que está a acontecer em Israel é abominável e há muito que qualquer desculpa que se pudesse dar deixou de fazer sentido. Mas banir tudo o que é sobre judeus derrota o propósito de pedir tolerância... People of the Book estava na minha lista de leitura há vários anos. Tinha todos os ingredientes para se tornar uma obra favorita porque é o tipo de história sobre os temas que mais me interessam. Circulação de objectos e o valor que eles têm. A narrativa começa em Sarajevo, em 1996, no rescaldo da guerra da Bósnia. Hanna Heath, conservadora australiana especializada em livro antigo, é chamada para restaurar um precioso exemplar de uma Haggadah (um dos livros sagrados judeus) medieval que é um dos tesouros nacionais e que foi salva por um dos conservadores do museu de Sarajevo, Ozren, muçulmano. Esta obra tem a particularidade de ser um raríssimo espécime de arte hebraica com imagens figurativas. Durante o exame ao livro, Hanna descobre pequenos vestígios da sua misteriosa história. A narrativa vai intercalando a sua investigação com flashbacks que nos vão contando essa aventura, desde que o livro foi salvo por outro muçulmano durante a segunda guerra mundial, até à sua criação, no longínquo século XV, ainda antes de os Reis Católicos expulsarem os judeus de Castela e a senda inquisitorial anti-semita tomar toda a península Ibérica. People of the book é, assim, uma história sobre como esses povos do livro, cristãos, judeus e muçulmanos, contribuíram para a preservação de uma obra de arte ímpar, apesar dos ódios mútuos e da repressão massiva. Facts! 💯 I can testify that this has been me on many occasions. It still happens to this day. It's a beautiful thing. Although it can be shocking when you realize so many things are taught wrong. I definitely had that expression when I found out my ancestors are the people of the book. Thank Yah for calling us out and into His truth. I'm still learning and growing. Imām al-Qurṭubī رحمه الله said: The event relating to Sayyidnā Yaʿqūb عليه السلام proves that it is wājib upon every Muslim when faced with distress or pain in the case of his person, children, family or property that he or she should seek redress from it by resorting to patience (ṣabr) at its best and by becoming resigned to and content with the decree of Allāhﷻ - and follow the example of Sayyidnā Yaʿqūb and other blessed prophets عليهم السلام. Ḥaḍrat Ibn ʿAbbās رضي الله عنه has said: Allāhﷻ conferred upon Sayyidnā Yaʿqūb عليه السلام the reward of Shuhadā’ (martyrs in the path of Allāh) for his sabr. And, in this Ummah too, whoever observes patience whilst in distress shall receive a similar reward. 1. A Peaceful Night The Prophet ﷺ said regarding the Night of Decree, "It is a calm night, neither hot nor cold, and the sun arises on it red and feeble." Source: Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah 2049 2. The Moon Looks Like a Piece of Plate Abu Huraira (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: We were talking about Lailat-ul-Qadr in the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he said: He who amongst you remembers (the night) when the moon arose and it was like a piece of plate (at the fag end of the month in a state of waning). (Sahih Muslim 1170) 3. There is Possibility of Rain Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ )mentioned that he dreamed about Laylatul-Qadr and in that dream he had prostrated and when he came up, his face was wet with rain water and mud (Al-Bukhari 813) 4. The Sunrise for the next morning Narrations say that it is going to be a sun with no rays. So that means it's a very weak sun, you can look straight at it (Sahih Muslim 762) The Prophet ﷺ said, "Search for the Night of Qadr in the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadan." (Sahih al-Bukhari) May we all witness Laylatul Qadr and make the most of it. “The Volume of the Book is Written of Me.” Jesus, speaking of the Old Testament said: “Search the scriptures … they testify of Me.” (John 5:39) Pilot looked directly into the face of Jesus and cynically asked: “What is truth? The Answer is always Jesus! “He is the Son of God who became the Son of Man because He had God to reveal, prophecy to fulfill, darkness to dispel, truth to disclose, error to expose, justice to satisfy, the law to fulfill, sin to forgive, righteousness to impute, sinners to save, people to sanctify, redemption to purchase, a church to build, a bride to purify, freedom to grant, heaven to open, life to give, death to destroy and Satan to conquer.” Following His resurrection, Jesus joined two disciples on the road to Emmaus and explained to them in all the scriptures the things concerning Himself beginning with Moses and all the prophets. Their response when their eyes were opened and knew Him was: Did not our hearts burn 🔥 within us when He talked with us on the way and while He opened to us the scriptures? (Luke 24:13-35) John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. John 1:29 Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. John 21:25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written.
