On Tuesday I photographed the Pink Moon rising over Church Rock from the beautiful beach of Broad Haven South 🌕🗿 After noticing that the skies above West Wales were super clear, I made the decision to drive 2+ hours from Cardiff with no guarantee of success, but plenty of hope. After a lovely walk along the coast, I eventually set up in position & waited for the moon to make an appearance, seven agonising minutes later she burst through the mist & rewarded me with a really colourful rise which I celebrated by screaming my head off! Luckily nobody was around to hear that bit! 😁 We all imagine creating a certain shot when planning things like this, sometimes it works, most of the time the weather ruins the entire thing! The story below is an amazing one from Afghanistan last October. I intend to return with a small photo tour group to Pakistan and an extension to Afghanistan in October 2025 using trusted guides. I went out to the arid and mountainous countryside to look for Kuchi nomads. We found a couple of tented camps with a few Adobe structures. Once again I could only photograph the males and one or two of the girls. The girls were wonderful colourful attire but all I could do was look. As a people they were incredible. The men with fierce eyes, kohl, black beards and clearly very resilient and tough. Their lives are truly arduous. They were so friendly and kept inviting me for tea. They migrate seasonally, a type of transhumance and are pastoralists with camels, sheep and goats. We paid them 100 Afghanis (the currency of Afghanistan) each - about €1. During the current hard times this truly helps and they were very happy. A real positive and something which is essential in a world where there are so many disparities.
