It's always a thrill to see the tiny and charming 𝐸𝑟𝑖𝑜𝑐ℎ𝑖𝑙𝑢𝑠 𝑐𝑢𝑐𝑢𝑙𝑙𝑎𝑡𝑢𝑠 (𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧'𝐬 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬) flowering at this time of the year. Unfortunately, this season hasn't been great for orchids flowering this Autumn with fewer sightings in certain places than previous years. More rain will be required for them to be successful, including those of which are still yet to emerge from their tubers within the soil. . . #astrapiaflorandfadventures #plantstagram #plantlover #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantsofaustralia #biodiversity #botany #botanical #flora #floral #plantphotography #plants #orchidaceae #eriochilus_cucullatus #parsons_bands #orchid #nillumbikshirecouncil #victoria #australia

Bursaria spinosa, "Sweet Bursaria" Bursaria spinosa is a common and widespread plant to 12m and is found as an understorey plant in Eucalypt woodlands in all states of Australia, except for Western Australia and the Northern Territory. It is not widely grown in gardens but it is a valuable plant for habitat and flowers any time, but mostly in summer, with delicately scented white flowers. It does have spines in the branches but they are sometimes sparse. This is more than outweighed by the importance of the plant as a food source for many butterflies including the threatened (Paralucia aurifera) and ant species Anonychomyrma nitidiceps (wikipedia) which form symbiotic relationships with the plant. Say hello to one of the most underrated bushfoods: Boobialla Commonly known as the native juniper, Boobialla is a small shrub indigenous to the southern regions of Australia. Producing a purple fruit, the Boobialla is great as a windbreak, and tolerates a wide range of soils, locations, and can even grow in pots. Plant of the Week!🌱 Eremophila nivea or Emu Bush A native of Australia, this luscious looking shrub is found naturally within the inland arid areas of south west Australia. It is commonly used in garden scapes of drier climates with well drained soils but has been known to grow in coastal conditions although it must be planted in full sun with good air circulation to keep the foliage nice and dry. It has soft hairs covering the stems and leaves which gives it a beautiful silvery-grey appearance and soft mauve coloured bell shaped flowers that appear from late winter to early summer. It grows to approximately 1 to 2 metres in spread and can make an excellent feature plant, screening plant or even container plant. This plant is great for attracting nectar loving birds and insects to the garden. #Eremophilanivea #EmuBush #orterradesign #orterra #plantoftheweek #plantsofinstagram #plant #nature #native #plantsofAustralia #plantlove #plantenthusiast #perennial #summer #winter #spring #desertplant #plantsfordryclimates #plantsfordrygardens #welldrainedsoil #foliage #foliageplant #greyfoliage #purpleflowers #flowermagic #shrub #smallshrub

Plant of the Week! 🌳 Glochidion ferdinandi or Cheese Tree An Australian native this plant is generally located along the eastern coast from mid NSW through to QLD and across the top end to the Kimberly region in WA. It is found in rainforest areas, along watercourses and in estuarine wetland. It is a broad spreading tree that grows to approx 10 metres tall. It is semi deciduous and has dark green foliage and greenish to yellow flowers that appear from winter to summer. The fruit grows to approx 20mm in diameter and forms into a small pumpkin shaped or ‘’edam’’ cheese shaped capsule, hence the name Cheese Tree. This plant is used in revegetation programs as a pioneer species but is also a food source for several native bird species and butterfly larvae. It tolerates a wide range of soils as long as there is adequate moisture and can create a beautiful dense shade canopy or screen plant option for the garden. #Glochidionferdinandi #CheeseTree #orterradesign #orterra #plantoftheweek #plantsofinstagram #plant #nature #native #plantsofAustralia #greenery #garden #landscape #tropicalplant #winter #coastalplant #varietyofsoils #yellowflowers #tree #birds #butterfly #butterflies #foodsource #fruit #pioneerplant

Geijera parviflora; aka Australian willow aka sheepbush; the linear-lance shaped light green, creamy variegated leaves come straight from eastern Australia, and grow incredibly well in southern California; holding up to drought and tolerating frost. Indigenous Australians chew the leaves to relieve toothaches. It gets the common name "sheepbush" because sheep eat it as fodder. I am particularly attracted to this beautiful variegated willow (as with all variegated plants I love) for their graceful, whispy yet very hearty foliage and the way that they subtly hold space in the landscape. #geijeraparviflora #australianplants #australianwillow #plantsofaustralia

Callistemon Citrinus 'Perth Pink' aka Crimson Bottlebrush is a first time bloomer under my care 🌝. Got her about 8 months ago from good'ol Bunnings. She was only labelled as 'Bottle Brush', so it was exciting to discover that there are so many kinds of Callistemons out there. I have lately been interested in growing Australian Native species, something that I wasn't really keen on growing a year ago. But natives have a way to grow on you (pun intended🌚🌚). Powered by @gt_growth_technology_au 's #gtnativefocus , #gtfoliagefocus and #gtflowerfocus , fertilized alternately with every watering sesh. #callistemon #callistemoncitrinus #bottlebrush #perthpink #bottlebrishtree #australiannative #nativeplants #indegenousplants #plantsdownunder #plantsofaustralia #plantgreenade #plantlove #nativeplantlove #nativespecies #callistemonspecies

Plant of the Week!🌳 Acacia longifolia or Sydney Golden Wattle A native to the coastal regions of Eastern Australia, including from southeast Queensland all the way round to southeastern South Australia and even including Tasmania. This species can grow to a variety of sizes from a medium shrub to small tree, growing anywhere from 2m to 6m tall and with similar spread. Like all Acacia species these plants do not have true leaves but instead have leaf-like flattened stems called phyllodes. The Sydney Golden Wattle’s ‘leaves’ are more elongated than other varieties and have spikes of flowers that grow to approximately 5cm long. Like most wattles this species flowers mainly from late winter through to spring, and are tolerant of a wide variety of soil types and are best suited to full sun or part shade positions. Like most wattle species these easily propagate and unfortunately these have been considered an environmental weed in some areas of Australia. So remember to research your area before planting in your garden. #Acacialongifolia #SydneyGoldenWattle #plantoftheweek #plantsofinstagram #plant #nature #native #plantsofAustralia #orterra #gardening #garden #landscape #winter #spring #knowyourplants #environmentalweed #coastaltolerant #coastalplant #foliage #notatrueleaf #yellowflowers #popofcolour #pompomflowers #tree #trees #mediumshrub
