We are devastated to share that the leadership of Chautauqua has destroyed our historic 100 year old garden without notice. There was no community input, Landmarks was not consulted and there was no CCA Board approval for this action. Once again the will of CCA’s leadership has superseded proper process, the guiding principles and the Mission of our National Historic Landmark. Enough is Enough! . . . . . #chautauquapark #bouldercolorado #boulderchautauqua #communitygarden #preservationisimportant #iris #zinnias #gardenveggies @boulderdailycamera @bouldermagazine @bldrfly @boulderweekly #timeforachange #letsgrow

I was thrilled to be part of the photo shoot with @flowermagazine and @cathykincaidinteriors in the house built by my great grandparents in 1933. After my great grandparents, my grandparents and parents also lived in the Tudor home. My parents saved the house from the wrecking ball with an extensive renovation in 1994. It was truly a labor of love. My family sold the home in 2006 after my Father passed. There have been two owners since we sold the house. Changes had been made and some of the original details had been removed. I was happy when I learned the current owners had purchased the house and Cathy Kincaid was on board to restore some original details to the house and work her magic. When we did the original walk through for the photoshoot it was wonderful to see the house in such great shape. Cathy and her clients have done an amazing job and really honored the architecture of the home. This is a shot from the front hall into the dining room. (My Mom was so happy to see that Cathy had put the @zuberofficial Scenic America back in the dining room.) A massive blue and white bowl was filled with gorgeous garden roses from @rosestoryfarm, mixed with Dutch tulips, peonies and beautiful variegated pittosporum and Italian Ruscus to round out the arrangement. On the sideboard we use pieces of the homeowner's Chinese export. We filled a large vase with Cherry branches, Queen Anne's Lace, Silver Dollar Eucalyptus, Viburnum and Variegated Pittosporum. Chinese Export bowls were filled with Meyer Lemons and Italian Ruscus. Swipe right to see the detail shots of the flowers ---> Head over to flowermagazine.com to see the article in the March/April issue and see more pictures of this beautiful home. 📸: @nathanschroderphoto . . . . . #flowermagazine #cathykincaidinteriors #preservationisimportant #tudorhome #diningroom #zuberwallpaper #zuberscenicamerica #handpaintedwallpaper #gardenroses #frilltulips #peonies #shadesofpink #dutchtulips #springbulbs #springflowers #chineseexport #bloomingbranches #cherrybranches #queenanneslace #silverdollareucalyptus #viburnum #variegatedpittosporum #meyerlemons #italianruscus @preservationparkcities

#TBT - 2015 standing on a footbridge in my hometown. The red building over my left shoulder was my grandfather’s steel foundry. He moved my grandmother, mother and aunt from Chicago to start a new and very different life. He passed away three months before I was born so I never got to know him, but I spend a lot time near his foundry imagining my family tootling about the once busy street. I love the colorful family stories and admit I sometimes wish I could time travel and watch my grandmother shopping in her favorite stores. #restoreitdontdestroyit #neverknewgranddad #steelfoundry #oldsteelfoundry #springfieldmissourilocals #springfieldmo #commercialstreetspringfieldmo #familymemories #familystories #iwannagoback #historiccstreet @historiccstreet #midtownsgf #historymatters #preservationisimportant

“…remember that as strong, as brilliant, as loving, and as powerful as we may be, we weren’t built to be superheroes [for this long anyway 😉🙃🦸🏽‍♀️]— we were built to be human.” - Threads of solidarity: WOC Against Racism “Giving from an empty cup/how not to die” . . . We have been, and currently are, in a marathon…we must pace ourselves, only stopping for support, prayer, water and nourishment, etc. but never losing sight of our end goal, justice, change to the system. . . . Please be sure to take care of yourselves during this overwhelming, trying, frustrating, infuriating, emotional, exhausting, uplifting and beautiful time. It’s a lot of emotions right now. Caring for yourself is a must, it’s what helps you keep showing up, and standing strong in solidarity. . . . Be sure to self-soothe during this fight. Because action also requires rest. Give yourself permission to do both. Create space to process everything. Give your heart, body, mind and spirit, the time to heal and rebalance so that collectively we can transform and change ourselves, our community, city, state, nation and world. . . . We will need each and EVERY one of you to address the trauma, injustice and systemic structures that have caused so much pain, oppression, violence, infringement and inequities. . . . ✊🏽🤎🖤🧘🏽‍♀️🙏🏽 . . . #FillYourCup #PracticeRestorativeHealing #Preservationisimportant #BeKind #BeBrave #BeSafe #HelpOneAnother #StayHopeful #KeepFighting #DontGiveUp Image by @thatssomelanie @123speakonit

Still a private residence when this photograph was taken in the late 1800s, Blount Mansion was the home of William Blount, governor of the Southwestern Territory and a signer of the U.S. Constitution. Blount built this frame house around 1792 when the city of Knoxville was but a few months old. Cherokee Indians, who were not used to seeing glass windowpanes, dubbed the home, “the House with Many Eyes.” Blount Mansion was saved from the wrecker’s ball by forward-thinking preservationist led by Mary Boyce Temple in the 1920s at a time when the area surrounding it, including the curious mound seen in this photograph, was affected by the construction of the Andrew Johnson Hotel. Also visible in the photo is what may be an original Hill Avenue gaslight. #knoxvillehistory #historichomesofknoxviille #preservationisimportant Photo courtesy of Lynn Tarpy and Blount Mansion. *swipe* Joseph Choate, a leading 19th-century attorney, hired the architectural firm of McKim, Mead, & White to design the 44-room Berkshire “cottage,” Naumkeag, which would serve as a summer retreat for three generations of Choates. With its views of Monument Mountain, its stunning collection of gardens created by Joseph Choates's daughter, Miss Mabel Choate, and Fletcher Steele over 30 years. Bequeathed in its entirety in 1958 – from furniture to garden tools to its intact dairy barn – Naumkeag, a National Historic Landmark, provides a special link to Berkshires history. More than that, it is a place where you, like the Choates, can find beauty and rejuvenation in a lovely place. #naumkeag #gildedageestate #gildedage #gildedagemansions #mansionsofthegildedage #berkshirestyle #berkshires #stockbridgema #stockbridgemassachusetts #morninggarden #turret #brick #shingle #mckimmeadwhite #intheberkshires #preservationmatters #preservationisimportant #berkshirecottages #nationaltrustproperty #berkshirecottage #berkshirecottages #turret #historichome #historichomes

In the era before the automobile, Frederick Vanderbilt's entire stable of carriage horses usually arrived here in Hyde Park from New York each year about May 1. Here they were stabled until about December 1, when they were returned to the city for the winter season in a special railroad car. #gildedage #oldstables #vanderbilthome #hydeparkny #nationalpark #historicsite #historicsites #oldbuildings #oldbuildingsarecool #preservationisimportant #buildingdetails

We had some fun this weekend digging into a potential vernal pool on some of our land off of Main Street. Mike and I both grew up on cape cod and this took me back to days crawling through the muck with Stew Parsons at green briar. I am excited that we now have our own little green briar. We found wood frog and spotted salamander eggs too! Not only do we love to renovate old homes but we also trying to preserve the precious land and water resources in our little town #photooftheday #ilovenature #preservation #preservationisimportant #saveourearth #fullcirclehomes #iloveplympton #plympton #southshoreliving #southshorema

This historical marker is sadly all that is left of the 4 historic beach pavilions that stood here from 1902 to 2006 when they were demolished. The dancing at these pavilions evolved into "the shag" and the post WWII era rhythm and blues music that was played at the dances developed into Beach Music. This lone sign really made me think about the important work of preservationists! #remember #thisplacematters #heritage #historicpreservation #preservationisimportant #myrtlebeach #beachmusic

The small downtown area of Barnesville was alive and well on this Saturday morning. That's the one thing about Georgia, they try to keep up their historic downtown areas - more so than any other state I've been to. It's really good to see.
