Shortly after I became a Cate Blanchett fan because of Carol, I stumbled upon this Plain Archive limited edition box set on the internet😍. However, it has sold out already since it was released in 2017. I was sort of sad since the box set is exquisite and I really wanted to own one. Fast forward to last month, I searched for this boxset on the net out of the blue, and Guess What??? I saw someone selling it on eBay😭. After some mind battles, I bought it regardless of its authenticity, such a bold move, I would say😂. But in the end, I did receive the box set and am completely blown away by it. Just like I said, it is beautiful and the quality is just so good. I do not have one bit of regretting my decision and I have no words to describe how happy I am😭. Looking back, I feel like all those 15+ hours of Chrome screen time per week because of reading Carol fan fic is totally worth it🥺😆. 📚 Review 📚 Flung Out of Space; Inspired by the Indecent Adventures of Patricia Highsmith by Grace Ellis & Hannah Templer. Flung Out of Space is a graphic novel telling a fictional version of Patricia Highsmith (Price of Salt, Strangers on a train, et al), and her journey from resentful comic book writer to successful novelist. Whew. The artwork is absolutely on point. The whole thing feels like a film noir (which given that it's set in the 40's, makes total sense). The story doesn't shy away from Highsmith's questionable character. E.g: CW: conversion therapy, antis3mitism, m!sogyny, 1940s attitudes. I most enjoyed the unexpected appearance of Stan Lee. Who knew the writer of Carol had worked uncredited on comics for Stan?!? I enjoyed this for the artwork and the uncomfortable unease it left me with regarding Highsmith. According to the author's note, a job well done. 4⭐️

One day a suit-wearing, cigar-smoking woman, named George Sand, her two children, and Polish composer Chopin arrive. Blanca is enamoured with George and falls in love with La Sand. Little do the family know their stay in Valldemossa, originally with the purpose of regaining Chopin’s health, is in fact doomed from the very beginning. 🍊This is probably, no definitely the most unique novel I have ever read. The writing is gorgeous, atmospheric and lyrical, but without being pretentious. Blanca is such a loveable narrator as she’s cycles through present, past (both Blanca and George’s memories), and future. Oh right, yeah, Blanca can enter people’s minds/bodies and take a sneak peek at their desires, memories, and future. This is largely a no plot, just vibesss kind of book, but the atmospheric writing and yearning emanating from Blanca kept me turning the pages. I was on the edge of my seat, waiting for some sort of communication between these two women. I mean a sad, avenging, sapphic ghost, in love with George Sand… all the yeses. 💬“I wanted to know everything, wanted to know what a woman smelled like, not just from a distance, but right up close (. . .) What a woman’s mouth felt like when it kissed you. I could only imagine approximations, insufficient and overly poetic.” 🍊This book really hammers home that life really is just a brief delicious thing. Especially when reading about Blanca, who died at fourteen. It’s also about love in all its shapes and forms, longing, grief and existence. 🍊I don’t think I will ever read a book like this again, and that simultaneously makes me happy to have read something so unique and sad because now I’m chasing the feeling this book gave me. To describe this novel in one word it would be: dreamlike 💬”I’d had enough of men by then to last a lifetime and longer. I learned too late to be wary, suspicious, to comb through their thoughts for nefarious intent, but I took it up after death for the sake of the women that survived me.”

☁️ Carol by Patricia Highsmith 4/5☁️ I fell in love with the world of this book immediately. It is such beautiful queer love story steeped in values privy to 1950s America. Therese and Carol were both enjoyable characters to read and their relationship was beyond precious. I definitely recommend to those who enjoy historical fiction and queer romance!

Terezos, priverstos laikinai įsidarbinti didelėje universalinėje parduotuvėje, rutiną visam laikui sutrikdo netikėta pažintis su Kerol Eird, užsukusia kalėdinės dovanos dukrai. Jiedvi pamilsta viena kitą ir leidžiasi į kelionę po Ameriką. Tačiau beatodairiškos meilės apakintos pakliūva į visuomenės nuostatų pinkles. Neįprastas, netradicinis, daugiasluoksnis ir rafinuotas meilės romanas apie sudėtingus dalykus paprastai. Būtent tokį įspūdį man paliko „Kerol“. Ir, žinot, va čia didžiausias paradoksas, kai žinai, kad veikėjos čia svarbiausios, bet kartu jos tokios nuobodžios ir nuspėjamos, kad vis tiek istorija, o ne veikėjos stoja į pirmas gretas. Negaliu nuneigti, kad veikėjos man nepatiko. Nė viena. Tereza pasirodė per daug vaikiška, lengvabūdiška ir neapsisprendusi, o Kerol - per daug ryški, „mamiška“ ir mėgstanti kontroliuoti situaciją. Galbūt dėl to man šie jųdviejų santykiai pasirodė labiau kaip mamos ir dukros, o ne kaip dviejų lygiaverčių partnerių. Bet, kita vertus, su kiekvienu knygos skyrium buvo nepaprastai gera regėti, kaip Tereza pražysta – kaip iš vėjavaikiškos paauglės tampa moterimi, žinančia, ko nori iš gyvenimo. Ir visgi man pasakojimas buvo per daug lėtas. Aš tikrai supratau autorės norus būtent per tą lėtumo pojūtį atskleisti visą istorijos grožį, bet, manau, jog čia tas lėtas veiksmas ir lėtas kulminacijos auginimas visiškai netiko. Niekad neteko skaityti @svajoniu_knygos leidyklos knygų, bet šios dvi mane ypatingai sudomino, neleido pro jas taip lengvai praeiti ir va, abi jau perskaičiau. Ką galiu pasakyti? Tai, kad ši iš pirmos pažiūros saldžių romanų leidykla turi ką pasiūlyti, yra stipri ir be saldumo dar yra labai jausminga, neretai skaudžiai per širdį kertanti ir žavinti savo drąsa bei požiūriais. “Kerol” pasakoja apie jauną merginą Terezą, kuriai tenka įsidarbinti universalinėje parduotuvėje. Darbo dienos slenka monotoniškai, kol į merginos akiratį nepakliūna žavinga moteris, vardu Kerol. Jų neįprastai prasidėjus draugystė netrukus išauga į kažką daugiau ir šis ryšys lyg besiplėčiantis virusas užgožia visą Terezos gyvenimą. Apsėdimą primenanti Terezos meilė Kerol perima kontrolę ir tampa svarbesnė už visą kitą. Jos dviese nusprendžia leistis į kelionę per Ameriką, tačiau kelyje pradeda ryškėti viso to problemos, kai likusi jų gyvenimų dalis pradeda vilktis iš paskos ir nepalieka jų ramybėje. Meilė, kuriai pritariančių nėra. Meilė, labiau primenanti apsėdimą. Meilė, kuri kelia daug klaustukų. Meilė, kuri nelabai panaši į meilę, bent jau ne į sveiką ir visapusišką. Skaitydama dažnai kėliau galvoj klausimą: “Ar jos myli viena kitą, ar čia tik Tereza apsėsta Kerol, o Kerol neturi ką veikt ir apimta vidurio gyvenimo krizės, spaudžiama skyrybų nori pasijusti tokia jauna kaip Tereza?”.🤡 Klausimo variantų buvo daug ir nors ir kaip man keistai rodėsi jų ryšys, istorija visgi buvo įdomi ir neleido atsitraukti. Nesupratau tos kelionės, nesupratau Terezos poelgio kelionės pabaigoje. Kodėl ir kaip ten viskas taip greitai persimainė jos galvoj, kai vieną akimirką ji jautėsi vienaip, o kitą jau VISIŠKAI kitaip? Ir dabar mąstau, kaip pasielgčiau aš jos situacijoje? Gal pakliuvus į tokį scenarijų išties nežinotum, kur dėtis, viduje sukiltų dar didesnė audra ir pasikeistų visas požiūris.
