Book #57 of 2024 *ARC Review* ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Wow! What a book! This book had me hooked from the first chapter. I had a hard time putting this down, I was eager to keep going, which I haven’t experienced from a thriller in a while. I enjoyed how Finlay wrote each character distinguishable and intriguing. The first chapter in the book was really thrilling and really set the tone for the rest of the book.There are multiple characters in this book but Finlay effortlessly weaves them all together and they are all connected in some way. At the end of Part one, there is a big reveal, and I said out loud “What??!” I enjoyed all of the twists throughout the story and the various settings, which makes me want to travel! I recommend this book if you want a fast-paced thriller with a diverse cast of characters. I want to read more of Finlay’s backlist, and I look forward to his next book. Vera Wong - not to be confused with the much more famous Vera Wang...unless you are looking for Vera Wang’s World Famous Tea Shop in which case yes you have the right Vera - might just be one of my favorite fictional characters ever! This cozy mystery involving a little old lady who means well by making her teas and lots of good food and of course trying to solve a murder truly hit all the right notes for me. I loved not just Vera, but the found family this story brings together. I audibly laughed out loud at Vera’s sharp wit and the the hijinks this group gets up to as Vera riles them up in her plans. I was a little nervous about the multi-POV perspective, but I felt it worked well in this story in not only fleshing out all of the important characters, but also giving the reader bits and pieces to come up with their own theories rather than solely be guided by Vera’s investigation. Also, I was genuinely surprised with the big reveal of this one which so rarely happens with a lot of cozy mysteries! • On a more serious note, I also loved the socio-cultural commentary on how the public perceives elderly people and their roles and “value” to society as they’re often isolated. There are multiple conversations about this throughout the book and some very emotional and heartwarming scenes where this is explored through both Vera’s thoughts, but also the people surrounding her realizing their own misconceptions about this. I love that this was so directly discussed and explored throughout this story because it felt very genuine and reflective - which made this book stick with me all the more! • While this book was perfectly wrapped up in the end, I can’t help but hope Vera Wong will be back again in another story as I would love to read about more of her antics! If you’re looking for a cozy mystery with an independent, highly motivated and opinionated, but comically delightful main character then this is the book for you!
👻📚 Sunday Scaries Stack 📚👻 • Sunday night is here and I know I sometimes get the "Sunday scaries" thinking of returning to work in the morning. I'm going to be starting a new job in a few weeks though, so I'm hopeful that I won't feel like that soon! So, I thought, why not focus that into a fun stack of some of my fave scary King novels? I get the sense that Stephen King is a bit like Marmite: some love his books, some not so much 🤷🏼♀️ Me personally? I enjoy his dark, twisty horror! • How do you guys fight the Sunday scaries?
Dragons🐲🐉 Honestly some of my favourite creatures to read about, especially when they have their own personalities and are a character themselves not just a prop🐲 They are just so huge and majestic and bring so much more madness to a story. My favourite dragons are probably from The Echoes Saga, because they are bonded with Dragorn and you get such fun personalities and conversations and I love when human problems are just such trivial matter to them. I also loved the Dragons in Realm of the Elderlings. They also have such huge personalities and bond with certain people and Tintaglia is honestly the best. The way she thinks humans should just do her bidding is so entertaining. I would 100% be down with riding around on her and doing her bidding just for the commentary. I have read - Dragon Mage 100% recommend - Relic of the Gods 100000% read this series - Dragon Keeper READ ROTE!!!!! The single most important thing we can do to glorify God with our reading is to make sure we are spending time in His Word. Scripture is the primary way that God reveals himself to us. He tells us through his Word how we should live in light of the fact that he has graciously saved us. When we spend time reading and studying the Bible we learn many things, including what brings glory to God. Knowing what the Bible says sets us up to be discerning when we come across things in the books we read that do not align with the truth of scripture. This will help us to make good choices about what books we choose to spend time reading and how we apply/internalize the things we do read. With then in mind, I encourage you to spend some time today and make a plan for your Bible study this week! #biblethenbooks

Ich hab noch nie eine komplette Reihe innerhalb so kurzer Zeit gelesen. Ich liebe das setting in New York und die enemies to lovers Story. Jess und Helena sind so unglaublich toll zusammen und ich hab wirklich sehr mit ihnen gelitten und mit gefiebert, weil ihnen so viele Steine in den Weg gelegt wurden. Ihre Geschichte zeigt einfach welchen druck und welche Verpflichtungen ein Leben als Teil der high society mit sich bringt und was manche Menschen bereit sind zu tun um ihre Interessen durchzusetzen. Vor allem jess Mutter trish hab ich richtig gehasst. Umso mehr mochte ich Jess, der sich von dieser oberflächlichen scheinwelt distanziert hat. Auch Helena hat eine tolle Entwicklung durchgemacht und ich hab sie für ihren Mut bewundert. Die Crime Story hat nochmal zusätzlich einiges an Spannung rein gebracht. Es gibt so viele Ungereimtheiten und immer wieder werden neue schockierende Dinge aufgedeckt, mit denen ich nicht gerechnet hab. Jak Wam minął weekend? Udało się coś poczytać? Ja skończyłam jedną książkę, przeczytałam całą drugą i zaczęłam trzecią - dobry wynik prawda? Współpraca reklamowa z @wydawnictwo_swiatksiazki Ale ostatnio miałam taką niedzielę, kiedy to sięgnęłam po książkę "Tajemnica położonej" i o ludzie! Jakie to było genialne! Jakie poruszające! Co za historia! Od razu napisałam do mojej sąsiadki - musisz to przeczytać! Ja sama tę książkę przeczytałam na raz, od deski do deski w jedno popołudnie. W moim osobistym rankingu to znaczy jeno - książka była rewelacyjna! Jak dobrze wiecie ja kocham książki, których akcja dzieje w dwóch liniach czadowych. Uwielbiam motyw tajemnicy, głęboko skrywanego sekretu, zatajenia czegoś co wydarzyło się przed laty i miało zostać zapomniane na zawsze. A potem nagle po latach, znajduje się ktoś, kto zaczyna drążyć, dociekać i szukać prawdy. Tak też było właśnie w książce "Tajemnica położonej". Ta książka, to tak naprawdę trzy różne historie, które połączą się w jedną i tym samym przyniosą zrozumienie oraz rozwiązanie tajemnic i zagadek. To po pierwsze historia pewnej małej dziewczynki, która zaginęła w sylwestrową noc 1969 roku. Nikt nie wie co się z nią stało i niestety stało się to zagadka na kilkadziesiąt lat... Po drugie jest to historia o położnej - kobiecie która niosła pomoc innym kobietom, przyjmowała na świat dzieci, pomagała im mamom, ale też ratowała życie kobietom, które tego potrzebowały. Czyniła dobro przez lata, ale świat tego dobra jej nie oddał... I wreszcie wracamy do teraźniejszości, gdzie młoda architektka Willow trafia na ślady z przeszłości mimo, że tak wiele osób próbowało zrobić wszystko aby do tego nie doszło. Jednak ona wpada na ślad zaginionej przed laty dziewczynki oraz położnej i wie że musi zrobić wszystko, aby prawda wyszła na jaw. Zwłaszcza kiedy okazuje się że dzięki temu może zapobiec kolejnej tragedii. Powiedzieć, że ta książka była niesamowita, to jak nic nie powiedzieć. Diese Persönlichkeiten trafen aufeinander. Livias Bestseller Buch sollte verfilmt werden und der Schauspieler Julian sollte die Hauptfigur im Film spielen. Nachdem sie sich kennengelernt haben, waren sie so einander gefesselt, dass sie sich verliebten. Das Buch hat mich von Anfang an mitgerissen und ich konnte es einfach nicht aus den Händen loslassen. Zwei verschiedene, gegensätzliche Persönlichkeiten sind so authentisch dargestellt, dass ich es wortwörtlich miterlebt habe. Am meisten hat mir die Darstellung von Livia mit ihrer Schwierigkeit mit dem Stottern gefallen. Es wird damit ein wichtiges Thema angesprochen. Auch die humorvollen Passagen haben mich sehr unterhalten. Dieses Buch hat mich mit dem grandiosen Schreibstil, den sympathischen Figuren komplett überzeugt.
