Have you heard that phrase, "You've got the audio bug"? ��First time I heard it was when Wilbur from Electric Wilburland came to visit us at the The Sonic Arts Center at The City College of New York, my recording school. Wilbur brought one of his assistants who he hired because the dude was so excited about audio, he wouldn't stay away. This young guy kept coming over to the studio, so Wilbur gave him a job.�� He told us, "the kid's got the audio bug". ��That's where I heard the phrase first, the audio bug. It's a compliment meaning, basically, you're the one with the headphones on at all times. Wilbur also said some really interesting things about running a studio. �� He told us that when people call him up and ask about the price, they never end up being good clients. ��If their first question is, "How much do you charge to record a band?", you know they're going to complain more than anybody else, and demand more than anybody else, and show up with songs that they can't even properly perform.�� The people who start off the conversation by asking about the price end up being the WORST people to work with.�� He told us the people you want to work with are the ones who ask about your live rooms, and your acoustic space, and your microphone cabinet, and your other musical projects, and your available time slots, and if you have bathrooms and a kitchen, and where are you located compared to the nearest airport, etc. ��Those are the people who are good lifetime friends to work with in the music production business. ��Not the ones who try to beat you down on $25/hour studio time. ��We are not buying a used car here. ➡️ Chew on this: when it's good quality, don't argue about the price. ��"Keep the quality up, and the rest will take care of itself."� (That last quotation is from a multimillionaire who invested in a venue where I was running sound. Back in the studio💥 After some relaxed weeks of roadtrippin and vacation it's time now to get back to work with new Inspiration 🚌🏝🚀 I'm super exited about all the upcoming projects and a lot of great things will happen in autmn 🍁🍂. First i will get some mixes done for @erikstenzel.liedermacher 🎛 And I will also care about a lot of editing, overdubs and vocals for @snailgaze.music 🎤 In October I will record and mix two singles with @ami.lyons and also some new recordings with @neue.strasse are in planning richtig now 🎧. November will be also special and @ambiviolenz and I will have a visit at @kommune2010studio to cool some hot stuff together with @sebastianbuddyneumann and I'm really looking forward to it 🍳🍲🍽! Tomorrow I will start my 3RD Semester at Berklee College of Music. To be "Professor Rhodes" 👨🏾‍🏫 to some of the most talented students in the world is a blessing and a surreal experience. I must pay homage to "Graduate" Rhodes though. During Covid I decided to take the time to finish my degree. Finishing that was something I thought I'd never do because I left the school many years prior to pursue my musical dreams. Many of those dreams were fulfilled so I had no desire to go back to school. Covid left us all with A LOT of time on our hands and I'm thankful for that. Finishing what I started scholastically was the cherry on top that made my resume perfect for Berklee. It also made me a living example to my daughters. You can and WILL do it all! I'm feeling a bit nostalgic as I cut on the MPC 3000 this morning. I got that feeling.......... That feeling of what made me fall in love with music production.
