Zippers are a leg amputee’s best friend! If you don’t know how to sew in a zipper, it’s actually pretty easy to learn! I learned how by watching YouTube tutorials knowing it’s a useful skill I’d need in my uni-legger life. Thank goodness for video tutorials! So, what’s One Footed Phoenix up too and why haven’t there been any long form video uploads for a bit on YouTube? Well, surprise! My life kinda took a wild ride lately! Everybody’s okay and doing well, no worries there, just a busy time! I’ve got awesome stuff in store for you all soon though!!! I’ve got big plans for the channel coming up that you guys are gonna LOVE! Sunday (May 5th) is the six year anniversary of my mission bike/car accident. Mixed feelings every year around this time for sure. Though, I’m struck this year with gratitude that our Heavenly Father had a greater plan for me than to call me home that warm evening as a missionary six years ago. I’m one of the lucky missionaries who survived to tell about being in an accident. Some faithful warriors in Gods army don’t get to return to their families alive after such events. It saddens me every time I hear of a missionary death. It saddens me even more to hear about early return missionaries who are hurting and who choose to walk away in bitterness. Yet, I also have great empathy and compassion for those who choose this path, understanding that everyone will have their reasons. I myself struggled for a while with anger towards the church and at God until I understood the role of choice/agency in Gods great plan. If God stoped me from experiencing what I have he would have had to take agency away from the driver who hit me that day. Makeup was not something I was ever good at - and I’m not saying I am an expert now…But, I’ve learnt what I like and don’t like, and what I feel beautiful wearing. I’ve learnt it’s not about knowing how to execute the latest contouring trend or that the look won’t be perfect every time 🥲 it’s about accentuating my beauty using the right products, and supporting brands whose values align with mine. I’ve needed a few days to sum up last weekend and I still don’t think I can put into words how incredible it was. First of all I just want to say a huge thank you to @iamhollymooreevents for believing in me to deliver my talk at the @anythingispossiblegroup The response has been so special and to receive the most loveliest messages has been overwhelming. April is Amputee and Limb Difference Awareness Month, and all month I've been wondering what I want to say. Are there people that have lost more than me? Yep. Are there people that have lost less than me? Also yep. But each bit has affected us all differently, some cope really well, some not so. I like to think I've coped well, but I've had my moments where I've been frustrated, or just broke down and cried like a baby, BUT, I've also had amazing support network with family and friends, and THAT is incredibly important. In less than 3 years I have had to relearn how to use my hand, and then again when @ossur_unitedkingdom gave me the chance for some amazing prosthetics, and that's a lot of learning in a short time. Would I be the same person if I hadn't had my accident? I have no idea, but I do know if I could go back in time I wouldn't change it. Hosted by the remarkable Bionic Project (@bionic.project), this event goes beyond just a race. It's a powerful movement aimed at dismantling disability bias through the pillars of education, storytelling, and the unity of sports. Team '𝗡𝗼 𝗟𝗶𝗺𝗯, 𝗡𝗼 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺' from MCOP's Boston clinic laced up their sneakers and hit the course. It was a sight to behold as they crossed the finish line, a testament to the limitless potential within us all, regardless of physical abilities. The event buzzed with a strong sense of community and support. Cheers from spectators echoed around, while participants engaged in genuine, supportive exchanges. This vibrant sense of community highlighted the incredible strength that comes from uniting around a shared purpose.
