I've spent a couple of weeks working on upgrading one of my tools, REFRACT, to generate distortion effects for images using shaders. In the old version of the program, I used the beginShape() function to build a plane on which I mapped an image as a texture and used a noise algorithm to shift the texture's vertex coordinates. This is inefficient and laggish when used with a large number of vertexes, and the effect turned out to be quite choppy and angular. With shaders, things are much more efficient and the result is way more satisfying. It remains only to find a new brain that better understands the mathematical concepts, because I'm just like an idiot, looking at these numbers and trying to understand how to take advantage of such incredible opportunities, that provide GLSL. Nevertheless, I'm glad that I was able to understand at least the basic parts and rebuild the tool, although I couldn't transfer all the functionality, so I have to keep on figuring it out. But in the new version are available ready-made presets and of course, you can save your own in JSON format. GLHF!

How to refract a patient with moderate to advanced Keratoconus (KC): Try and establish the cyl axis using retinoscopy. This is not always easy in KC due to the scissors reflex. If not, use the cyl axis provided by the auto-refractor. And if both not possible, then put a -3.00 or -4.00 cyl in the trial frame at any axis. Then ask patient to rotate the cyl axis using the knob on the trial frame using a 6/60 or even 3/60 letter on the VA chart. Then work on your sphere by adding minus lenses in large steps, refining as you go down the chart. Sounds ‘Jua Kali’ but it works. 😊 #keratoconus #refraction #astigmatism

Total Internal Reflection! These two pictures may seem like boring random windows, but it shows the importance of incidence angle on window function! In the first picture, I was at a very large incident angle looking through the window. I couldn’t see through though and simply saw a reflection of the outside wall. In the second picture, I am looking at the window almost straight on.
