Happy Earth day! On Friday I hosted our first mending circle for Kindred artists and it was wonderful! @rachnagarodia wove a hole closed on her skirt and replaced a button on her shirt migle_migs_ fixed a chair as well as her jumper @olivia.streeton mended moth holes in her beautiful purple jumper @dexworks learned how to fix a pocket lining, ruined by keys Sandrine from @ommade.uk repaired a rip in her jacket with some awesome visible stitching @danieljames.photographic covered a hole in his shorts with a sew on patch (He also took most of these photos using expired film to get the lovely retro vibe!) And I managed to sew the tiniest butterfly on my jacket! It warms my heart to know our things will survive a few more years and not be added to a landfill any time soon. And I think itâs fair to say we all learned something new in the space of just a couple of hours. Thanks to everyone who came and made it so special. UPDATE coming in from @fash_rev đ 115 global events đ (stats provided by @livsimpliciano who popped in to visit us this week) Fabrications âImagineriumâ studio was buzzing with a full house of menders in potential for my monthly âGrandmaâs Handsâ - introduction to hand sewing repairs classes. In the morning the focus is fabric items and woollens in the afternoon! Itâs always interesting (and heartwarming) to find out what motivates people to join these classes. A sewciable morning spent mending in public at @thepavhub with @edinburghstreetstitchers(and sitting here with @williamsrosamund ) in collaboration with @fash_rev . The blossom blossomed, the sun shone, stitches were stitched and chatting was welcomed. People stopped to enquire, some sat and joined in. This is the first of this year's summer outdoors street stitching. And hopefully this will become an annual start to the season. It will be interesting to see how far the blossom is out year on year. Happy #MendsDay ! Iâm totes happy with my latest repair and ânew to meâ tights and also to discover another mending # initiative after seeing Triciaâs @morrissews post last week! Although Iâm not sure what the etiquette is on this one but figured it would be fun to start sharing my mends every Wednesday to hopefully offer some ideas and encouragemend to others! I feel like I am on a roll with my mending basket this week. My toddler has been tolerating me mending while he plays, so Iâve had some time to work on it. I received these toddler pants from someone in my local Buy Nothing group. The knees are roughed up, and one was torn. I wanted the patch to have a smooth edge that wouldnât fray, so I decided to try this method I saw from @miniaturerhino several years ago. I traced a jam jar on some thin cardboard, then traced a slightly larger circle on my fabric (a 30+ year old scrap from my momâs stash). I used a running stitch to tighten the fabric around the cardboard, ironed, then removed the cardboard. The result was a relatively round patch that held its shape. I glued that onto the pants and then used a whip stitch to secure it.
