I’m not a huge fan of the Eurovision Song Contest, but April 30th 1994 changed my life forever. I was in my room and my dad called me down to watch something on TV. It turned out to be Riverdance. In 95’ Riverdance the show came out and then Lord of the dance premiered in 96’. It was around this time I became obsessed with Irish dancing and I started teaching myself in secret from the videos. When I was 18, I started with a dance school, which was when I learnt what a treble was and that I could actually do one. I did a few competitions and didn’t do too bad (all things considered), then at 19 I started touring with shows. I wound up dancing with lord of the dance for nearly 8 years and got to dance with a number of people I’d admired since the start of this crazy journey. Including @michaelflatleyofficial . If it wasn’t for Riverdance performing at the Eurovision in 94, I wouldn’t have been introduced to Irish dancing and wouldn’t be where I am today. I’ll be eternally grateful for @riverdance and the doors it opened for me. It changed my life in so many ways. Riverdance star Michael Flatley said he was warned not to embarrass Irish dancing when he performed at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994. The dancer caused a stir with his interval act when he took to the stage with a non-traditional routine, which broke strict rules about what was acceptable. Happy International Dance Day! My journey to dance was not typical. I always enjoyed dancing but I didn't grow up in dance classes like many dance enthusiasts. My first dance class opportunity was an 8th grade elective. I was never able to master technique or master body lines. I always forget to point my toes. When I was entering adulthood I started finding ways to teach myself and sought out adult dance classes. I learned tap for a musical I was in 👯♀️ I was able to finally take a ballet class 🩰 I learned belly dancing from YouTube 💃 I self-taught Irish tap Then I eventually found aerials and pole and fell absolutely in love. Over the last few years I've dabbled more and more into ecstatic movement and it is like I found the missing link in my dance journey: A free form, no rules, no technique, emotive expression of dance. It's become the most freeing, most liberating, and most spiritual part of my journey. Воспоминания о ловле судака на ахтубе, район харабали. часть 1 ⠀⠀⠀⠀ Первый день выйдя в ахтубу, я еще наблюдал много лодок и людей на берегу. Вода только начинала подниматься. С первых же минут, прибор рисовал интересные картинки, что хотелось всего и сразу. Однако обширные стаи астраханской бели не работали от слова - совсем! ⠀⠀⠀⠀ Тем временем, сомы удерживали моё внимание своим присутствием на глубине свыше 13 метров. Особенно перспективным оказался микрорельеф на глубинах 7-8 метров, где наблюдалась высокая концентрация рыбы. Однако использование грузов даже свыше 50гр, там представлялось сложной задачей. ⠀⠀⠀⠀ Наиболее продуктивной оказалась ловля судака, который медленно перемещался по барханам на глубине 4-5 метров. Лучшие результаты были достигнуты при использовании техники проводки "на снос", хотя часто после успешной поимки одной-двух рыб ситуация становилась менее благоприятной. ⠀⠀⠀⠀ Среди приманок наибольшую эффективность продемонстрировали "Чёпики" на быстрой проводке и "Савамура Слим". Вот так и пролетел первый день, в постоянных поисках, перемещениях, наблюдениях, с множеством постановок, забросов в воду и смен приманок. ⠀⠀⠀⠀ P.S. What a day!! For the first expedition of the year, it doesn’t get much better than this! ☀️ Sunshine and just enough of a breeze to keep the mosquitos away… almost. 😄 There was a bit of snow and ice along the active riverbank so we dug around boulders in the old dry riverbed. We dug 10 full 5 gallon buckets. Whew! Boulder patches make hard digging! The we screened them all down to 1/4 inch and ran them through a Riverdance Max with a 30 mesh screen. It took about 45 or 50 minutes. The Max ran like a dream and the little DeWalt power tool battery we used to power it still showed a full charge when we were done. Since it was a family and friends affair, we took the concentrates and ran them through a Riverdance Mini-Jig with a 60 mesh screen. Sophia did the majority of the work and decided all the gold should go to her 🙄 😂 The same 5 amp hour DeWalt power tool battery was still showing full charge when we finished😳 Well, that was good stuff and we had lots of fun panning and teaching. After that my sister and her husband decided to dig a little more Paydirt, so I broke out the 2nd stage attachment for the Riverdance Max. Everyone really enjoyed seeing it work and taking turns feeding material in. By the way, the same little battery was still reporting a full charge when we finished! What a champ! After all that, we didn’t end up with much in the vial, but we had a blast and that makes it all worth while. Hey that rhymes! 😬 The whole crew got to see just how easy to use and capable these machines are. They will catch everything, without a doubt, and excel at catching superfine gold. 🎶25th Anniversary of Riverdance🎶 🫶A childhood dream made a reality! Words cannot describe just how incredibly moving this performance is to me! I can remember SOOO clearly as a little girl in my not so pleasant (biological) childhood home, alone in front of the TV putting on my favourite escape VHS @riverdance Always so mesmerised by Michael Flatley’s craftsmanship, incredibly fast tapping feet, flowing satin shirts and self assured charisma……Jean Butler, my goodness me!! Never before had I witnessed such poise, beauty and incredible flight within a performance…..the way not only the pair of them but the entire ensemble tapped, danced and glided around the stage so beautifully in unison; But all whilst using their incredible tapping skills to accompany Bill Whelan’s mindblowingly beautiful and transportive composition of the music behind Riverdance🙏🤩 I was always taken away to my happy place, my little self watching religiously in a house full of darkness….I found my magic light and a moment to escape into a world of happy tappy feet, soul soothing music and a performance so uplifting, that imbedded to my core. To be able to witness front and centre! Just as little me sat close to the TV screen all those years ago; But this time, watching in the flesh, was a moment I am so proud of! THE DANCER HAS WOKEN UP🌸 I’ve danced different dance forms since I was a child. Some 20 years ago I found Irish Dancing and haven’t looked back since. Due to injuries, busy lifestyle etc I had a break for a couple of years, but at the same time worked in professional Irish Dance shows around the world as a musican. I feel so privileged getting to watch closely these phenomenal dancers working their craft and talent! To also share my pages with @meadhbhkennedy annamaifitz & rachel_cummins_ is very special to me too 🩷 Though I physically cannot see or read the hard print copy , it feels REAL to hold the glossy pages in my hands. A Countess Cathleen dress for commission. The bodice is made from silk velvet and a duotone silk. This version of the countess dress is based off of the one that principal dancer, Anna Mai Fitzpatrick wears. It is adorned with hundreds of hand sewn beads and “Austrian made crystals. “ The skirt is a full circle skirt made up of two layers. The top layer from a chiffon and the bottom with a red sequined fabric. After extensive research I have found that Each Countess bodice is different to each dancer. Which I think makes it extra special.
