SUP SCHOOL VAN DE WEEK Hallo! Stel jezelf en je school eens voor! Free Movement is opgericht in 2012 en één van de eerste SUP scholen in Nederland. Als pionier heeft Ricardo Haverschmidt zijn bijdrage geleverd aan het stimuleren van het suppen als sport en het opzetten en ontwikkelen van SUP (race) trainingen in Haarlem en omgeving. Verschillende podiumplekken op zee en vlak water en het vertegenwoordigen van verschillende watersport merken hebben ervoor gezorgd dat Ricardo geen onbekende is in de SUP wereld. Voor hem, als gepassioneerde sporter en allround waterman is zijn vrijetijdsbesteding uitgegroeid tot een levensstijl. Deze ‘lifestyle’ brengt hij met plezier over op anderen die werken vanuit vertrouwen en de controle durven los te laten;-) Zelf ben ik, Petronella van Malsen, gek op reizen en sportieve uitdagingen. Deze combinatie heeft me op fantastische SUP bestemmingen gebracht. Na jaren van intensieve training heb ik een aantal mooie prestaties neergezet, waaronder 7x Nederlands Kampioen. Hoogtepunt was het afgelopen WK in Thailand, waar ik tweevoudig wereldkampioen Stand Up Paddle in de 40+ categorie werd. Na jaren gewerkt te hebben als IBT docent op de politieacademie ben ik in 2022 mede eigenaar geworden van Free Movement. Als SUP school en persoonlijk delen we al jaren met plezier onze kennis, ervaring en trainingsmethodes in Nederland met andere SUP scholen en geven we clinics op uitnodiging in Europa. We zijn eigenlijk altijd in ontwikkeling. Samen met Margriet Koeman (eigenaar IkSUP) hebben we deze maand een wingfoilschool geopend in Loosdrecht. I started to tune into my body and it was like: oh, it feels like there is a lump in my throat,... or oh is there an armor around my chest?!…🫀... and so on :) My body felt like it was composed of many parts that could not communicate together very well and each of them had their own reasons and ways. 🌸 That one night I made myself a promise that I would bring to life all these disconnected and numbed parts of me. 🏵️ Many times since I have reiterated that commitment. ON PURPOSE ‘What is your Purpose, bro?’ Questions like this give me the cold sweats, every time. Some young part of me, desperate to be good enough, flies into a panic and tries to find something profound or wise to say. And on a few occasions, I have given in to peer pressure (imagined or not) and tried my luck. Thinking about it still makes me cringe. The thing is, every time I am asked to summarise, specify or otherwise linguistically delineate these terms, the clever answer that the Good Student inside me wants to provide eludes me entirely. And then, finally, I figured out why. These are concepts which, for me, defy verbal description. They reach deeper than language, and they cannot be defined using it. The moment I place a fence around words like ‘Purpose’ or ‘Leadership’ and say ‘This is what this is’, they lose their charge, their potency, their agency. The living ideas that the words seek to describe lose their connectedness, and become static, dry, inflexible labels. The only instruments that work seem to be metaphors. Expressions that speak to feeling, and imagination. So what are the implications of this? It means that my ‘Purpose’ and my idea of ‘Leadership’ exist in a dynamic relationship to all other aspects of my experience. And, even though they refuse simple categorisation, I KNOW when I am aligned with them. I also know when I am off track. I feel it. This ‘knowing’ resides in the body. The European Commission president, Ursula von der Leyen, suggested the scheme, which would also have allowed young people from within the EU to stay in the UK to work or study for the same period of time, would have been an area in which there could be “closer collaboration”. “The topic of youth mobility is in both our interests, because the more we have youth mobility being on both sides of the Channel, the more we increase the probability we will be on good terms because the next generation knows each other very well,” she said on Thursday. But a UK government spokesman said, “We are not introducing an EU-wide youth mobility scheme – free movement within the EU was ended and there are no plans to introduce it.” The government would prefer to do deals with individual EU member states – something that the EU is not happy about. Labour said it had no plans for a youth mobility scheme. MY VIEW: It’s not surprising that Rishi Sunak has flatly rejected the idea of any form of the resumption of free movement with the EU. But a UK government spokesman said, “We are not introducing an EU-wide youth mobility scheme – free movement within the EU was ended and there are no plans to introduce it.” The government would prefer to do deals with individual EU member states – something that the EU is not happy about. Labour said it had no plans for a youth mobility scheme. MY VIEW: It’s not surprising that Rishi Sunak has flatly rejected the idea of any form of the resumption of free movement with the EU. If we breathe inefficiently we get sick 🤢! There are a few simple things in life, but this is one of them 😁 The main responsible for a good breath is a muscle 💪 called diaphragm! If is a muscle, contributes to movement! If is a muscle can and should be trained like any other!! Today I’m sharing 4 exercises I apply frequently with my students to: 👩🏫 Teach them how to use and train the diaphragm 👩🏫Teach the 3 dimensions breath (as the Ribcage 🩻 moves in all directions), used in Pilates 👩🏫Strengthen the diaphragm working against the resistance of the ball (remember it’s a muscle). Transition from High Chair to Low Table 😊 I initially got a high chair through the Facebook marketplace, which was okay. However, I wasn’t satisfied with my daughter’s posture while eating in that chair—she tended to lean onto the attached table. She also couldn’t yet place her feet on the footrest, resulting in some wobbling. Inspired by a blog post from @janetlansbury, I decided to switch to a breakfast table from IKEA. I’m so glad that I made this choice! At first, I had doubts about whether she could sit still and eat at the table. To my delight, she’s doing remarkably well, remaining seated until she finishes her meal.
