UPDATE #1 So the most important of all our updates, is Jacqui. Jacqui got her temporary eye fitted out of the blue at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle this week. We jadnt heard anything for a while and we were told this procedure usually happens 6 weeks following surgery. After a few failed attempts, Jacqui rang to chase up her referral about and they came back straight away and asked if she could get tonthe hospital for 12pm that day. She rang around 10:30am, so this came with as a big surprise and some relief. I got away from work and we drove over there for her appointment. So Jacqui now has a temporary eye in until her proper one is made up for her, which might be about 4-6 months time. Jacqui is really pleased with it though and it does look really good. For her, it's been an emotional time as it's the first time in her life she's seen her eye look normal. Now, we can start looking forward and Jacqui can hopefully live more of a normal life without the pain she has experienced most of her life. She wont thank me for posting the photos as she'd just got out the shower 😅, she still looks beautiful. Fingers crossed tomorrow is the day for 🏡 Sending him home with a course of antibiotics to take. He's had antibiotics through his line for any other infection and tablets for the chest infection since we came in. He had to have some oxygen Sunday night as he was poorly. He had an xray at 11.30pm Sunday night. He needed a wheelchair when we came on Sunday. He's had 3 bags of bloods. And he's taken 2 syringes orally of potassium solution 3 times a day as well while we're in...he said it's disgusting!, bright pink and tastes like salty cough medicine 🤮 He's eaten better the last 2 days and been out of bed and upstairs to play on the PS5 and speak to his mates. Tbf he hasn't coughed a great deal at all & just shows how easy he's caught something and his immune system won't be back up until Christmas. He was a poorly boy on Sunday when he came in. 🏥JACQUI UPDATE🚨 Hello to you all, hope all is well with you all. We just wanted to give you all an update on Jacqui as some of you have been asking how she is getting on since her operation. Thanks again to all of you for the well wishes and messages during what has been a difficult little period of time. Jacqui had her stitches out today at the RVI in Newcastle. This should've happened last Tuesday but the appointment got put back a week. The eye has healed really well they've said and has to go to the socket clinic on 5th June. We should hear back soon about her consultation to get a temporary eye replacement put in. They said its usually about 6 weeks from the actual surgery that she will see the consultant for that. Hopefully that will be mid to late April. We wanted to wait until the appointment today to update you all as we haven't really had any more information to update you with. Jacqui is doing well though and has recovered well over the last 3 weeks and is getting back to her normal self. Believe it or not this is immie 8 days after being in an induced coma in intensive care! She is having IV antibiotics to treat a pneumococcal infection before her brain surgery. She is an absolute superstar, we know, but this was made so much easier because of the doctors and nurses that got our baby back to us and their amazing care 💕🙏🏻. Didn’t think I would be here at the RVI Eye Department last night , but so glad I was! Firstly the biggest THANK YOU to everyone in the NHS at the RVI Newcastle who helped me through this problem. You are the BEST 🤩 For the last 3 weeks something weird had been happening with my right eye, stopping me from focusing and seeing properly and therefore painting (not ideal for an artist 🧑🎨). It turned out to be a retinal tear with haemorrhaging, with my retina on the verge of detaching at any point in the last few weeks. The attention, care and swift action to laser my eye was more than I could have hoped for and I am so very grateful and relieved that my eye issue was successfully treated. What a challenging year it’s been 😔 After an extended visit to the UK in June/July to pack up the family home in Somerset and organise my mother’s move to a care home in Northumberland, I’ve been back again this month after Mum developed sepsis and was given only hours to live. Incredibly, this story has a happy ending. Four weeks after being admitted to the RVI in Newcastle ‘Miracle Margaret’, as she became known on the ward, has made a surprising recovery and returned home. I can’t begin to describe how immensely grateful we are to Dr Tom McKenzie, the remarkable young doctor who saved Mum’s life, as well as the entire team of doctors, nurses, care assistants, dieticians, physiotherapists and palliative specialists on Ward 44 of the Leazes Wing who facilitated her recovery, while also supporting my aunt and me as we kept a daily vigil at Mum’s bedside. It’s a humbling experience to witness the unwavering dedication of these NHS professionals day in day out, and their profound impact on the lives of patients and their families. Another date, another step closer to showing 2023 the door 👊🏼. Today I was finally discharged from Ophthalmology at the RVI 👀. The double vision is super mild and is only apparent to me if I’m doing a ‘regan from the exorcist’ impression 🧟♀️ so no dramas there. The scarring to the optic nerve is a result of the craniotomy but the news today (at last), is that it has settled 🥳 and so after 8 months of appointments and lizard eye dye, it’s another victory in this incredible journey. Massive thanks to our amazing NHS and Ophthalmology at #rvinewcastle 💙, words will never be enough to describe how grateful I am for your care. To anyone out there going through, or about to go through the same journey, hang in there, it’s a long road we travel along, but with the people we surround ourselves with and with those we meet along the way 🇺🇸, we can get through this. 🙌🏼. 👶💙❤️WORLD PREMATURE BABY DAY👶💙❤️ We enjoyed our journey so much the first time we did twice!!!🫣 💙Lewis was born at 31 weeks ❤️Georgia born at 28 weeks Lewis was born at the RVI but as there was no beds available in the special care unit, so he was transported to Sunderland Hospital at their neonatal unit, so all I had was a picture of my little boy. Due to great staff at the RVI I was re-united with him the next day at Sunderland and then was returned to the RVI 7 day’s later. Georgia arrived in spectacular way and I ended up in intensive care, again when I woke up Jim got me some photos of our little girl as I was too poorly to visit her downstairs. Special care journeys can break you mentally, nobody can ever prepare you for your journey. Jim and I propped each other up and when one of us was not as strong as the other we found strength to support each other. Luckily we were one of the lucky ones and brought our babies home, sadly not everyone has that special moment of bringing a car seat into the ward and entering the next chapter. Let’s celebrate the amazing nurses and doctors who watch and care for our babies and support parents through the special care journey. Scanxiety…….apparently it’s a thing 😳. It’s been over 7 months now since my op and to me, it feels like a lifetime ago and in some respects, like it didn’t happen to me. Yesterday I had my first check up MRI scan. I’d been thinking about it all week but felt ok as it was just the scan and I’ve had a couple of them, so no big deal. What I wasn’t prepared for was the overwhelming amount of bad memories that came flooding back as I walked along the corridor towards the department where it all happened and where I’d been back to so many times in the first 4 months. I’ve had MRI scans but not at the RVI and we’ve been back to the RVI but not back to the neuro department apart from when I haven’t been well. It just all came flooding back and I f&@“ing hate that it all happened and this is now my life. But on the flip side, life is a privilege and I’m super thankful I’m here to face the highs and the lows. The 30 minute scan passed in no time with a little bit of help from @sam_fender playing through the crazy mental noises. Results will be known in December. I will be forever grateful to the NHS 💙 and neuro team at the RVI. Angels 👼🏼, the lot of them #rvinewcastle #neuroteam 🧠🙌🏼

Operation 2!! A trip to A and E at the RVI on Friday evening/night ended up with a stay in hospital and another operation on Saturday afternoon for Johnathen. The very tip of the part of the finger which was stitched back on had started to infect the finger, so he had to have that removed and he braved it under local again. Hopefully all heals well now, but lots more trips back and forth as the wound is left open under the bandages to heal over natural so lots of check and bandage changing to be done. Once again the RVI have been fantastic, even when I decided to nearly pass out, warning to self always take food and drink with me when going to A and E. #operation2 #rvinewcastle #hospital #son

Part 2... On Monday just gone i under went MOH's surgery to remove the little bugger. The surgeons map out the operation site around the tumour and remove this in the first stage. The site is left open whilst they assess the tissue for cancer and the whole process is repeated until you are cancer free. Two hours after my first op i was told the amazing words "you have the all clear!" So op number two was with the plastiscs team to close the area up and make it look as asteically normal as possible. The team at the RVI were incredible and i cannot sing their praises enough. So this is me and my journey 48 hours post op. No make up, no fancy lighing, no filters and more importantly cancer free. My point. Skin is our largest organ, please look after it. Wear sunscreen, avoid sunbeds, check for any abnormalities and trust your instincts. I am not sure when I last introduced myself to my new followers. So, Hi 👋 I am a mum of 2 teens and we live just outside of the Lake District. I worked as a radiographer until our second son came along, I was lucky enough to be able to be a full-time mum whilst they were little. I became a therapist following my partner's struggles with panic and then anxiety. He went to see a hypnotherapist who was able to remove the panic attacks within 4 sessions (if I remember correctly). Life was back to normal until anxiety appeared on the scene, about 18 months later. Our eldest had a tough time with separation anxiety from nursery to about year 3. I wanted to be able to help. I didn't want other people to have to live with anxiety the way they had. I trained as a hypnotherapist and them BWRT (BrainWorking Recursive Therapy) Therapist. BWRT is fast effective and more permanent than just using hypnosis alone, in my experience. I enjoy using hypnosis, but I love the energy that BWRT has, it is very different from hypnosis. I enjoy helping my clients to enjoy life again, to be able to get out and do the simple things that many of us take for granted. A clients said this to me when we were talking about mindset "Where you brain goes, your body follows" Your brain responds to a perceived threat Your body reacts Fight Flight Freeze Fight - muscles supplied with oxygen, breathing becomes faster, heart rate increase, you need the strength to protect yourself. Flight - again your muscles need oxygen to respond, often "get me out of here" and run for the hills, as well as the above, you need to be as light as possible to run fast, you experience the need to go to the loo or throw up. Freeze - you do nothing, your brain can not find a response so freezes Your body is following the message your brain is telling it. Our brains are very strong, or to be more specific, our old/reptilian/chimp brain is very strong The feeling you feel when anxious is your old brains way of keeping you safe. Even when you know on a new or conscious brain level that you are. The brain needs a new path to follow, reaction to have so you can feel how you wish. On the 7th of June at 7:09am, I gave birth to my beautiful little baby boy. The hospital were so amazing with being accommodating, and Chico was permitted to stay for the entire length of the labour and even be there for the birth, which honestly just made that special day even more special. The only time we were separated, was when I was given an epidural, as it’s a small sterile procedure, but my amazing partner Sean took him out for a little walk while it was done, and I had the support of my nana to help me through it. Chico displayed the best behaviour I’ve ever seen from him during the entire thing, and I’ve never been prouder of myself and of my dog. He kept himself out the way, tasked when necessary and kept an eye on me. Labour & birth certainly aren’t something you can train an assistance dog for, so I had to rely on the fact my dog is 100% bombproof and prepared for any situation to even think about having him there, and honestly I’m so glad he was. 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗺 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 It will often depend on the situation you are in or facing. Tears flowed from my partner's eyes when he found out some very shocking news about his health. The overwhelm of being told you have a brain tumour was immense for him, as I am sure can understand. The one thing he noticed as he went through his treatment, was that anxiety didn't show up much at all. The fear of death probably outweighs anything anxiety could through at him. Thankfully after 2 operations, he is on the mend and the tumour was a benign meningioma, which is the best brain tumour you can have, I know that sounds silly. I feel that over the coming months as his health continues to improve, frustration may begin to creep in. Worry may also occur as he is unable to drive which makes work very difficult, finical pressures will build. Overwhelm can get the better of us at times and that is 𝗔𝗕𝗦𝗢𝗟𝗨𝗧𝗘𝗟𝗬 𝗢𝗞 Every emotion you feel has its place in life, yes even the ones that can feel horrid. However, when those emotions are stopping you from living the life you want and deserve, that is when you need to look into doing something about it. You may have already read this, but it is important ⚠️𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗿 Life changed at 3.02 pm on Thursday 12th May. One of the biggest things I have learned is to keep pushing, and never give up. If you think or feel there is something not right, keep pushing. My partner has had a rough time of it over the last couple of weeks or so. My partner was told he had a brain tumour on Thursday (12th), by the next day (Friday 13th), we were in the RVI in Newcastle, and we saw the consultant neurologist (amazing chap) who told us he needed a wee op that day. Fluid was building up in his brain, the tumour wasn't the main issue at that point, it was the fluid. They popped a drain in and he felt much better, not brilliant, but definitely better, he could cough without pain. On Monday he had the op to remove the tumour, we found out the following week it was benign, which is what they thought. But my biggest or largest message is to 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗽𝘂𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴, this has been going on for a wee while, if you know there is something not right 𝗗𝗢 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗚𝗜𝗩𝗘 𝗨𝗣 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗹𝗼𝘂𝗱. We all hear of things being missed and the NHS is under so much pressure at the moment. You need to shout very loud. If you are not a shouter, then find someone who will help you shout. I kept on at him to keep pushing, I feel there are times when he could have pushed more, but I also feel they may have been able to do more. You know your body better than anyone, look after it the best way possible. My partner has had the best of a bad job when it comes to brain tumours and is now home and doing well.
