Despite the lack of wind, less than 10 knots, last night’s Twilight Race was enjoyed by a fleet of twelve boats that sailed, shall we say, with slow majesty, from start to a shortened finish at Wonga Shoal. Miraculously there was not a single DNF although one boat in particular dawdled to the finish line making it by a catfish’s whisker before being timed out. Division A winner was Brenton Pegler and crew on Playground, in front of Ocean Hawk (Steve Emery) and Clockwork (Andrew Lloyd). Division B winner was David Dunk on La Santica O Diablita, ahead of Magnum (Jim Heyen) and School’s Out (Adrian Wotton). Quick update on Voiles de St-Barths 2024 – unfortunately, it’s been canceled. The event, originally set for April, hit a roadblock after Richard Mille’s departure, and they couldn’t secure a new sponsor. 😕 Locally, it’s a bit of a financial hit, with businesses estimating a loss of 6-7 million euros. 📉 If you booked accommodations, things are a bit uncertain at the moment. 🏨 The organizers are considering a scaled-down version, but they really need a sponsor to make it work. It was another lovely Twilight race enjoyed by a fleet of 15 boats last night. The forecast was for up to 25 knots, but we were under that so all but the Elliotts were out on the water. Luckily, we had our PFDs on board. Mandatory to wear them if the Y flag is up, and safer too. The club was buzzing with good cheer post racing. So nice to be part of it. In Division A, Robert Dunn’s Venom romped to a handy lead coming in first, followed by Julian Newton’s Game On 31, and, unusually, a tied third between Lloyd/Harvey’s Clockwork and Greg Patten’s G-Wizz. The Duty Crew thank you for the wine Robert Dunn 👏 In Division B, Jim Heyen’s Magnum finished in front of Mark Moore’s Seduction then John Mortimer’s Ohana with minutes between them. Saturday’s offshore race was well worth turning up for ⛵ The Glenelg Gulf Race, run by RSAYS and covering approximately 61 nautical miles saw a mixed fleet of 7 boats from CYCSA and RSAYS cross the start line towards the Wonga Shoal mark before heading further south to the Adelaide Sailing Club mark. Heading north, Venom shot to a solid lead on the longest leg, 29 nms to Long Spit, with Clockwork maintaining a healthy second place. With the true wind angle at about 100, it was a mostly easy downwind run that saw an increase in wind strength and a change in boat order with Sintara, flying an S3, snatching second place ahead of Clockwork and Magic, and it was in this order that the fleet headed for the Entrance Beacon finish. An interesting offshore race that had its challenges and opportunities and finished in daylight! PHS Results: Silent Partner (D. Morrison, RSAYS) first ahead of Sintara (D. Morrison, CYCSA) followed by Magic (Mike Holmes, CYCSA).
