Look at its cute little face, how could you not love it? This adorable one is the Malayan Bridle Snake (Lycodon subannulatus) and was spotted by @ethanajaylaii during a casual walk! Joining the nightjar craze because I think it’s really a once in a lifetime thing to get such a close view of a fearless mother & baby nightjar. Usually they are so incredibly hard to spot due to their excellent camo skills. With the sweltering heat at around 11am, poor mum and babe were trying to hide in the shade each time the sun shifted too. Baby was really not having it with multiple huge yawns and mama giving that withering look of chagrin. Rain or shine... ... the parent Coppersmith Barbets #赤胸拟啄木鸟 brought food back to their baby chick in the tree hole across a small 2 lanes road from a multi-storey carpark. The sheltered carpark structure allows the many photographers to photograph these moments rain or shine too😄 6,10, 17 Apr 2024: Whenever weather seems unpredictable during the period, we will head to this multi-storey carpark at Ghim Moh Link. There was a pair of Coppersmith barbets nesting, and raising a young chick. The nest was high up a tree, but being able to photograph the nesting moments at eye level from upper levels of the car park was great😄 Read that the "Coppersmith Barbet (a.k.a. Crimson-breasted Barbet) is known for its metronomic call that sounds similar to a coppersmith striking metal with a hammer", and hence its name. Glad to see these local resident barbets, usually found in forested area, are able to adapt and live in the urban environment of a residential area. My first encounter with a Large-tailed Nightjar chick 🐣 Like most nightjars, Large-tailed Nightjars (Caprimulgus macrurus) are nocturnal and crepuscular. The rarest frog of this genus in Singapore, this is the Masked Swamp Frog (Limnonectes paramacrodon). Our last sighting of this species was in 2022, and we’ve been searching quite a while for this one. As I’ve become much more interested in frogs and got better at spotting them, this was a species I’d wanted to find again. Splish Splash 13 Apr 2024: This resident White-throated Kingfisher #白胸翡翠 at Hampstead Wetlands often takes its bath in the late morning to cool off. Its usual perch from which it dives from, is at the far opposite bank. That day, probably due to some park workers, working in that area, it decided to perch on one of the wooden pole in the middle of the pond. I am so happy to be able to catch it taking its bath much nearer, with a few dives, before it dries off and flew up a tall tree. When we first came across this Pink-headed reed snake, it was writhing about in the middle of the path. We feared the worst as a few cyclists had just passed us by and there was every possibility one could have rolled over it. It did not help that its body was contorted weirdly with this odd "indent" in the middle and some long, thin mass was sticking out of its mouth. It really looked as though it was run over and its innards were spilling out. When we rushed over to see if there was anything we could do, we realised that the long, thin mass was actually an earthworm. What happened next then happened so quickly that we could barely process what was happening. The snake regurgitated the earthworm and immediately darted for the leaf litter. Within seconds, it was gone and all we got from the encounter was just this quick snapshot that I had managed to grab. We cannot know for certain what actually happened but one possibility is that the snake had probably just eaten an earthworm and was moving across the path when the cyclists came along. It was spooked and decided to regurgitate the worm so that it could get away more quickly. Poor guy, but well, it could have been a lot worse! Similar to Olive-backed Sunbird, but has a red chest spot, an orange wash on the upper belly, and no white outer tail feathers.
