Only on chapter 4 of this one, the story is interesting so far. There's something I've realised I don't like though, some authors do it, my guess as to why, is to give the reader the sense of being in a different world?? It's the changing of the way words are spelt, for me it just interrupts the flow of the story, I end up re-reading sentences to make sure the word is meant to mean what I think it means. Anyone else? Don't you wish trees could talk? I Imagine these really old ones must know so much. What would they teach us? Would they warn us about something important? I like to think they can speak but just choose not to speak to us. Well I did learn that they do communicate with each other. For example if one is under attack by a certain pest it will send out an underground message to the surrounding trees. Even if the other trees aren't yet under attack, they start producing their own nautural pesticides, fungicides or antibacterial chemicals to make sure they are ready to ward off the new threat. Has anyone ever started a series that they loved only to be disappointed by the follow up volumes? I loved The Golden Compass by Phillip Pullman, I read these books over ten years ago and I don't think I finished the third book, I just couldn't get through it. After loving the first one, and then watching the film whilst traveling Asia, I was so excited about The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass. I think with another decade of wisdom and patience (🤔🤣) I might change my mind. Does anyone believe that something out there is guiding us? I'm not sure myself, but I know strange things do happen. My original first post of the day was a very personal and emotional post. Send me a dream catcher 🌌 I finished my first draft on Sunday and told my self to have a bit of time away before the re-read and starting to edit. The aim of the break was to give myself fresh eyes and a better chance at seeing my work from the readers perspective. Alas, the message didn't make it to my brain. I dream every night of my characters, I'm with them constantly, and I feel guilty because I want to be with them. So, not one to play by any rules, I will get to the re-read as soon as I can. I absolutely love animals, and was very fortunate to have so many pets in my childhood. I feel this has given me a great understanding and sensitivity to the creatures around me. I've always loved helping the ones that some would say were challenging, or maybe even been given up on. Friends would call me in to help them tame their hamsters, rats, cats, I helped the horses I rode and worked as a dog trainer for a few years. That's how I met my beautiful dog Cerberus, I found him ten years ago in a rescue centre, his time had run out and he was going to be put to sleep for aggression. Well I'd fallen in love with him, and I couldn't let him die. He took only hours to calm down and a few days to become one of the pack. He is so loving, calm, gentle, very clever and brilliant with children. He's my best friend and soul mate. A great teacher vs a dream crusher. I wasn't the best A grade student, but I was extremely determined. I re-wrote my five pieces of English course work five times each to get graded five A's. But I was terrible at exams, I managed B,B in my GCSE English literature and language. I was thrilled, as were my teachers who always said I was amazing in lessons but for some reason my brain couldn't function in exams. The next year I was 16, excited for my first AS level English literature class, and then the unthinkable happened. It was a different teacher, and she refused to take me in her class. The requirement for taking the class was B,B at GCSE. When I explained that she said the Literature result wasn't a high enough B and that I didn't have the discipline to do the work. She said all of this at the front of the class with all my friends watching, by this age I didn't usually care what my friends thought of me. But that teacher made me look like such an idiot, like I was too stupid to do the work, like I was a complete fool to think I could. I walked away feeling crushed. Fast forward another 16 years and I was sitting by my new wildlife pond a few weeks ago, over half way through my first book, I thought of that teacher and it hit me what she had done and how horrible it was. Today I officially finished the first draft of my first book 🎉🎉🎉 I started writing between christmas and new year and trying to write whilst being a full time mother and massage therapist has been very challenging. But really to get this book written has taken years, the idea first came to me as a teeneger. But a lack of confidence in my writing ability and maybe the need to get some life experience under my belt, meant that I started this book at the age of 32! I have loved every moment of writing and I'm so excited about the next steps. I'm taking a short break before re-reading from the start and editing.
