I am currently riding the wave of perimenopausal hot flashes through breath work and meditation 😊 A lot of women I know opted for hormone replacement therapy at this stage but I am trying to control the symptoms through my diet and doing a lot of inner work. I try and eat a wholesome local plant based diet, I personally feel meditation or becoming meditative is easier on a lighter stomach. I have people coming up to me often to discuss my weight loss journey, I do multiple things but the biggest change is the sense of equilibrium I feel within me. I think the joy within is definitely helping, we are all given abundance of it, just look deep within yourself. I do have crazy moments occasionally but I am constantly witnessing my thoughts and love spending time with myself. But maybe it’s also time to shift most of the blame to the real culprits: large corporations. Let’s hold them accountable by demanding better. Instead of letting eco-guilt paralyze you, why not take a two-fold approach? 🏔 1. Honor the Earth with a “do your best” approach to individual action. 🏔 2. Get involved in collective efforts to reduce negative environmental issues. Some tangible examples? Invest in sustainable fashion, take good care of your clothes and keep them for years, and get involved in causes that benefit your community. “Picture it. My boyfriend’s birthday.” “Your sister’s here!” I yelled up to my boyfriend. “What?!” he hollered back. “Your sister is in the driveway!” I repeated. “Let her in! I’ll be right down!” my boyfriend answered. “Just let her in Rayna. It doesn’t matter that you have a headache and look like total crap,” I grumbled to myself. I then took a deep breath and opened the door with a huge grin. “How nice to see you!” I exclaimed. Today I’m sharing the outfit I wore out to dinner for my boyfriend’s birthday. My styling inspiration is the last picture of this post. It shows an outfit from Michael Kors Pre-Fall 2018 runway show. Overall, I felt like this runway outfit translated well to everyday life. In addition, I felt comfortable and confident wearing it. Unfortunately, it was not what I was wearing the day my boyfriend’s sister stopped by. That day I’d just finished work at my landscaping job and was filthy and exhausted. Needless to say, I was not my best self. Returning to the story… “How are you?!” my boyfriend’s sister chirped. “I’m al…” I started and she interjected, “Can you help me carry some stuff?” “Wow! You didn’t have to do all this,” I said, rushing to relieve her arms, which were filled with food and gifts. “I sure did! It’s my favorite brother’s birthday!” she responded super sweetly. “Are you two going out tonight?” she added. “Uh…well no,” I said sheepishly. “We both are tired so we’re waiting until the weekend. I did pick up food though,” I said, lamely pointing at a drive-thru bag on the counter. “Oh…well, I brought lasagna,” she shrugged. “Did I hear lasagna?!” my boyfriend yelled and bounded down the stairs. For the next forty minutes my boyfriend’s sister showered him with attention and gifts. I sat, fake grin plastered on my face, and silently berated myself for failing miserably. When his sister finally left we both looked at the counter. Yesterday marked 200 days of the g3n0c1d3 in 🍉 and my feed was filled with reminders of the horrors being inflicted daily which many of us have borne witness to over this time. . How is this still going? We asked ourselves this at 100 days! Another 100 have passed and things are only getting worse. And still so much silence. . I do what I can to raise awareness and I see you insta friends who are doing the same. But we are far fewer in between than I’d have hoped for a sustainable fashion community who generally have a grasp of how western capitalism and racist constructs are responsible for oppression and exploitation of people in the global south. Why are many from this community not joining the dots with the 🇵🇸 cause? We are seeing how these people are so dehumanised they are reduced to data points in an AI system called Lavender predicting who might be a militant, predicting when they’ll be home to strike and killing them and their families, enabling the tech to be labelled “battle tested” so it can be sold to armies and police forces on other countries. Is this a world we want our children to grow up in? . Where are the sustainable fashion crowd calling publicly for this to end? Hell where are the fashionistas with big platforms calling for this to end? I’m feeling pretty alone and deserted as I know others are too in their social circles, workplaces and even families. . I read somewhere that many good people often don’t speak out because they lack courage. It’s understandable. There is barely any mainstream news on what’s happening on the ground so we’re not being shown the reality. More airtime and headlines are unfortunately given to falsely smear peaceful protests in London. We’re seeing sinister crackdowns on free speech everywhere. But in ten years time when the horrors are finally revealed after 🍉 has been razed and it’s people ethnically cleansed and the evidence is finally revealed about what was done how will you feel about what you did or didn’t do? . Heute vor 11 Jahren hat sich eine schlimme Katastrophe in Bangladesch ereignet. Beim Einsturz eines Gebäudes, dem Rana Plaza kamen über 1000 Textilarbeiter:innen ums Leben. Der 24.04. ist zu einem wichtigen Gedenktag und der Auslöser für die Fashionrevolution geworden. #whomademyclothes fragen sich viele seitdem! Seitdem gibt es viele Initiativen, die sich für die Verbesserung der Arbeitsbedingungen in den Textilfabriken einsetzen. Aber da gibt es noch Einiges zu tun. Ich widme meine neueste selbstgenähte Jacke allen Textilarbeiter:innen auf der ganzen Welt. Zwar nähe ich meine Kleidung überwiegend selbst, aber ab und zu muss ich ja doch etwas kaufen.
