This is our culminating event of the season, where participating students exhibit the work they completed during their Architects in Schools residencies. All exhibits are open to the public, kid-friendly, and free (with the exception of OMSI which requires museum admission). No need to register in advance. Simply show up and join the celebration! What was initially an exercise in trompe l’oeil art became a very personal peek at the students’ lives—each student was required to copy faithfully a cabinet of theirs, whether at home or at a boarding house or dorm. A special exhibition of works by the fine arts students of Far Eastern University will have its Opening Reception tomorrow, April 13, at 2pm at the Lower Gallery of Fundacion Sansó; 32 V. Cruz St., Brgy. Sta. Lucia, San Juan. “This exhibition of 42 paintings, size 20 x 16 inches each, is a selection from over 100 midterm plates on trompe l’oeil, a technique in painting that creates the illusion of three-dimensional space on a two-dimensional surface. These were submitted to Professor Joemarie Lachica under the subject Visual Perception by mostly freshmen Studio Arts and Visual Communications majors on the 2nd quarter of 2023, and exhibited in FEU under the title ‘In a Room Full of Cabinets.’ The goal of the activity, was according to Lachica, ‘to test how accurately they can copy an image and in the process make them understand perspective, light and colors.’ But beyond this, the works reveal a glimpse of the realities of the students – some lived at home and had the luxuries of living in one, while those who lived in dorms had more spartan arrangements that border more on the utilitarian. CABINETS OF CURIOSITIES: TAKE A PEEK. What started as a midterm plate on trompe l’oeil turned into an art exhibit. It was also an exercise in capturing—within a small frame of a few shelves and open doors—a glimpse into a corner of a student’s home and life. "These were their midterm plate for our Visual Perception class. The topic was trompe l’oeil. The initial instruction was to take a photo of a medicine cabinet in their homes and paint it. Then some students told me that there weren't any in their homes and some are staying at dorms. So, the instruction was to take a photo of any existing cabinets where they were staying at and paint it. They were allowed to set up their photos or do it as candidly as they liked. The goal of the activity was simply to test how accurately they can copy an image and in the process make them understand perspective, light and colors. This was for last year, 2nd semester, AY 2022-23. Congrats to Eric Bui, U-M med student, for winning the Grand Prize for the Science as Art Competition! Description of Eric's hand-knitted garment titled Granulation: As an undergraduate, I studied the complex processes of wound healing. The granulation phase of wound healing is pivotal to scar formation. Inspired by the complexity of this tissue, this piece is a 50-hour hand-knitted garment constructed of suri alpaca, mohair, and silk. The intricate fishtail composition draws from ancient and contemporary techniques, reflecting the controlled proliferation of capillaries and connective tissue in wound remodeling. In medical school, the pace of learning often outpaces our ability to reflect upon the beauty in the human body. I urge the viewer to consider their body, its fragility, and its resilience. The student show is open to any student in grades 7-12 in eastern Potter county, all of Tioga County, and western Bradford County in public, private or homeschool. 2 pieces per student. Filled with meanings, tea in media provides a rich landscape to communicate with audiences. The World Wide Tea exhibit compiles and promotes the exploration of these meanings through video art and the use of the Internet of Things (IoT) in conjunction with design elements. THIS FRIDAY ~ Wenatchee Valley College Student Exhibition ~ Coming to Art Alley @ Pybus. Reception ~ Friday, February 2, from 5 - 7 pm. All are welcome! "The WVC Art Department is honored to take over Pybus Art Alley for February to share works by some of the talented students taking our art classes. These pieces represent a glimpse into the range of media being explored in the Music and Art Center, and the breadth of student types and interests studying with us. Here, they are all growing and learning disciplines and skills that help them to make compelling artistic expressions of their ideas and perspectives. The MAC provides tremendous facilities and a nurturing atmosphere for the development of skills and creativity. We offer instruction in a full complement of media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, design, illustration, digital design, graphic design, and art history. Our studios are dynamic places open to a wide variety of student interests, from those simply looking to gain Humanities credits toward their associate degrees in another field, to those planning to go on to an advanced art degree or career, to local fine artists looking to further develop their already substantial practices. It is not uncommon to find 18-year-old Running Start students working alongside senior citizens from Continuing Education, all growing in their own ways, and benefitting from one another’s perspectives and influences".
Every year we host this one-of-a-kind event for our local student artists because they gain valuable portfolio-enhancing experience as they move toward high school graduation and beyond. Celebrating and recognizing young artists encourages their creativity and vision and brings our community together! The 2024 High School Visual Arts Competition (VAC) is open to all students living in or attending schools in Lamorinda & AUHSD, Grades 9-12. In addition to the month-long student exhibit, we will host an Artist & Award Reception in the Orinda Library Gallery on March 14th from 7 - 8:30pm. It's time for the third installment of our annual VISIBLE art event!! VISIBLE is a celebration of the visual arts within the K-12 Ensworth community. The event showcases artwork from Ensworth students throughout the Ingram Arts Center. In partnership with @artloungemanila and Fundacion Sansó, “Multiformity” opens today, December 19, 2023 and runs til January 5, 2024 at Art Lounge Manila-Podium. Opening reception is later at 6pm. The FEU-IARFA Faculty and Student Exhibition is a celebration of the diverse forms of artistic expression, featuring works primarily by both faculty and students. This exhibition recognizes the array of ideologies, perspectives, and innovative techniques employed by each artist within the realm of modern art. "Multiformity" embodies the concept of embracing diversity, not only in terms of subject matter but also in the very forms and mediums utilized for artistic communication. This showcase highlights the multitude of techniques artists use to convey their messages, spanning from traditional painting and sculpture to contemporary digital art, installations, mixed media, and dynamic performance works. Empire Mazda of Huntington has announced the launch of a partnership with the Art League of Long Island to support their art students and to help spread the word of its exceptional value as a community resource. As part of the new alliance Empire Mazda will feature an Art League of Long Island instructor exhibit to coincide with the dealership’s grand reopening from January 20th-25th. Community support for the Art League is especially critical at this time following the facility’s temporary closure in October after torrential rain and subsequent flooding. Senior Capstone for Artists (PT/SA 400) introduces students to the working world of the professional artist. Students create a cohesive body of work that is critiqued throughout the semester and exhibited at the end of the semester.
