Whew, busy day! Started driving early on I-40. So nice and quiet at 6:30 in the morning on the interstate. Stopped in Bullhead city for gas. Must fuel up before going into CA! Tip: get the Chevron app, sign up with a log in and get $1 off a gallon on 3 fill ups of 25 gallons. Then to a beautiful park on the Colorado River for some ball fetch with Junie and work. I was parked on a hill and could not keep my chair from rolling from my desk so decided to move on. Down the road to the Nevada visitor center where I worked a while. Good spot to park overnight also, not staying there this year. A stop in the Joshua trees and more work in a great big pull off that quiet road (Joshua tree highway). Then onward on I-15 to Peggy Sue’s Diner for an overnight in a lot. Tomorrow we’ll get to Lone Pine early enough to hopefully get a good spot at the Tuttle Creek campground. One more day of drive, work, drive, work! Junie has been getting in some good ball time, so she’s happy! Funny story about this ball. Unfortunately I was laughing too hard to get it on video. I bought this ball for the big dogs who play in this RV dog park. I tried Junie with it and she liked it right away. But then she grabbed it, took it to the gate, slipped through the gate and then tried to get the ball through the gate. It was 9 years ago I left the San Juan Mountains of Colorado behind for living and traveling in an RV. I did know this life would suit me, but I didn’t really think I’d be still on the road 9 years later. But here I am. It’s been quite a journey meeting so many fine people, enjoying sunsets in all kinds of terrain. Seeing how people do life differently but also the same as me. We all have struggles and pain. Travel continues to open one’s mind and always makes one more conscious of others. I love connecting with others, but especially travelers. 2023 was a tough year. Losing Mick & Romeo so tragically set my emotional state back quite a bit. Still not caught up. Junie helps, but is certainly not a replacement. She’s a wonderful companion, fun, easy and loving. On my lap as I write. It’s a new stage for me now. Looking for property for a winter home base in Las Cruces, NM. It’s a wonderful small city with art, culture, mountains, great food & really nice people. Also planning a knee replacement later this year that I’ve needed for a very long time. I still have a lot of travel in me. I do enjoy moving around. This year will be Eastern Sierras in the Spring, Oregon coast for all summer, back to Estes Park in Sept then return to las Cruces and get a new knee. Meanwhile, I’m joining some groups trying to make new friends in Las Cruces. I already have some wonderful peeps to hang with which is so great. It’s my 9 year Nomadversary! Yahoo! Back in my homeland, the San Juan Mountains of CO. Fun river run yesterday on the San Miguel river. Back when I lived here the valley floor was not accessible and I’ve never been on it or the river. The town and citizens bought the land in 2008. And now there is 1 trail, but no dogs allowed, so I have never walked it. The river run was swift and technical, fun also. Not a beer float though. Junie did well, she got splashed once and tried to jump out. I had her attached to me and grabbed her immediately. She did great though, she’s a real trooper and will try anything with me. Thrilled to be here after the 1400 mile drive from Oregon. Tucked in the aspens at 9300 ft at my friends house, it’s a slice of heaven. #takeyourdogalong #telluride
It sure was a fun time on the Oregon Coast. Finally got some wonderful weather last weekend. We stayed at friends over the weekend near Lincoln City. Junie had some wonderful dog time at Linda & Ally’s place. She had a blast being part of the pack. It was an amazing time seeing friends all along the way the last few weeks. Feel so grateful for so many amazing peeps in my life. It’s been a grand time, but it’s time to head back to CO and see my Momma in NM. Bandon, Oregon. What a delightful place. Spent the work week in Bandon and got to play with a RV friend, Deb we met in 2016. What a fun week for Junie and I to have a great friend and fun dogs to walk and play with. I stayed in Bullards Beach State park which was nice but very busy. Grateful that I got my Starlink to work with all the trees. Lots of clouds, fog and cool weather. Sun comes out periodically. We are in Waldport this weekend at a friend’s property. My friends Lee & Bob put on new rotors and brakes on the front end of my motorhome. Yay! Had the most amazing dog friendly get away this past weekend at @modern_mini_barn_narrowsburg . Just 2.5 hours from NYC, this luxurious property is set up with the comfort of dogs and humans in mind, and is fully fenced with a huge, glorious yard. We stayed at a Harvest Host family farm last night. Junie met pigs 🐖 , goats 🐐, chickens 🐓, ducks 🦆, horses 🐴, cows 🐄 , geese 🪿, sheep 🐑 and 5 dogs 🐕. She did great was was friendly with all. First and foremost, the school building itself so closely resembles the original structure of the Schoolhouse Cottage that I would believe it is the original if it weren’t for the fact that the Schoolhouse was moved to where it stands today from a field in Auraria, not Suches. Second, as a former teacher and history lover, I am fascinated by old photos of school children. I like to study how they are dressed, their footwear (or lack thereof), their facial expressions, their age ranges, etc. Finally, if you are familiar with the Schoolhouse Cottage IG then you have seen multiple posts featuring June the Schoolhouse Dog. If you look closely you can see an “apparition” of her in the foreground. I like to imagine that she’s been looking out for the inhabitants of the Schoolhouse for generations both past and present. Let the new chapter begin in my life! Meet Junie, aka Juju Bean. Adopted at the Inyo County Animal Services Center. A whopping $10 fee today due to it being National Adopt a Shelter Dog Day. I’ll take the break cause she needs some cute girl stuff! Here’s what I know in the 8 hours I’ve had her. She’s calm, wise, a great ball fetcher, can leap through the air to get the ball, professional power napper (slept 3 hours this afternoon and through dinner at a restaurant), walks nice on a leash, waits at the door, friendly to people and dogs. And as I type this she is burrowing in some blankets in a dog bed. She’s a bit underweight so I’ll be transitioning to a whole food diet from kibble. She ate well tonight. Not treat motivated yet. She’s sweet and kind. I think she’s going to make a great adventure pup. It was a fun and beautiful day in Puerto Penasco. Started and ended on the beach. We went to a fun art market today called the mermaid market. Drove all around the city. Back to the campground for a free fish fry on the beach and a sunset walk. Its nice to be on the water. I’m with 42 other RVs in a group called the Mexican Connection. A chapter with the Escapees RV club. We will be here for 1 week then we head to San Felipe on the Baja for a week. I plan on staying there for 1 extra week. It’s nice to meet some new RV friends. Half the group are Solos!
