Navagraha temple in Chennai – Guru Parihara Kshetram. 🕉️ The Ramanatheeshwarar temple in Porur is associated with Shri Rama, who prayed to Lord Shiva to pardon him from the sin of, touching the Shiva Linga with his feet unknowingly. Porur was also known as Uttara Rameshwaram. 🕉️ Lord Rama was wandering in the forest in search of Sita when he came to the area now known as Porur, and was resting under a Nellikai ( Amla)(Phyllanthus Emlica or Indian Gooseberry) tree. He realized that there is a Shivalingam beneath his feet, under the ground and his feet had touched the head of the Shivalinga unknowingly. In order to atone from this sin (Guru Dosham) & to bring the Shivalinga out of the ground, Lord Rama prayed to the Shivalinga for 48 days, eating only one Nellikai every day as his food. In order to atone from this sin (Guru Dosham) & to bring the Shivalinga out of the ground, Lord Rama prayed to the Shivalinga for 48 days, eating only one Nellikai every day as his food. Arulmigu Mariamman Temple, Samayapuram, Tamilnadu Mariamman Temple, Samayapuram Arulmigu Mariamman Temple, Samayapuram is an ancient Hindu temple in Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu, India. The main deity, Samayapurathal or Mariamman, a form of supreme mother goddess Durga or Maha Kali or Aadi Shakthi, is made of sand and clay like many of the traditional Mariamman deities is considered as most powerful Goddess, and hence unlike many other Hindu deities there are no abhishekams (sacred bathing) conducted to the main deity, but instead the "abishekam" is done to the small stone statue in front of it. It is believed by the devotees that the Goddess has enormous powers over curing illnesses[1] and hence, it is a ritual to buy small metallic replicas, made with silver or steel, of various body parts that need to be cured, and these are deposited in the donation box. Devotees also offer mavilakku, a sweet dish made of jaggery, rice flour and ghee. Offerings of raw salt is also made to the Goddess by the rural devotees.History of the temple is unclear. In the early 18th century, King Vijayaraya Chakkaravarthi built the present day form of the temple. There is scant history of the period before that though it is believed that the locals worship the Goddess for many centuries before building the current temple. One legend says that the present deity was at the Ranganathaswamy temple at Srirangam, and one of chief priests of the temple believed that the idol caused him illness and hence asked it to be removed from the temple. The Nellaiappar temple is located in Tirunelveli on the banks of the Thamirabarani River. The Pandya Kings constructed it. The temple features two different shrines: one for Lord Shiva and the other for his wife, Parvathy. The two temples are linked by the Sangili Mandapam, which has texts by Hanuman, Vaali, Sugrevan, Bheema, and Arjuna, among others. Another noteworthy feature is a statue of Lord Muruga sitting on his chariot, peacock fashioned out of a single stone. Visiting the temple during the holiday season, particularly during Thirukalyanam, Navaratri, and Arurdra Darisanam, may be a remarkable experience. These celebrations take place throughout the Tamil month of Aippasi (October 15–November 15). The temple is located in the heart of town, so travelers should have no trouble finding it.
