🇨🇦 VANCOUVER EATS 🇨🇦 📍Tendon Kohaku in Downtown Vancouver, BC (near Robson!) 💸 $20+ per person A few weeks ago, I got to try @kohakutendonvancouver which has been on my bookmarked list of places to go for a long time! 🥹♥️ They specialize in tempura-don bowls and udons and also serve beverages and soft serve desserts! 🤩 I got the sashimi aimori tendon set ($22 CAD, pictured in the middle), which came with various tempura (2 prawns, 1 chicken, 1 kabocha, 2 beans) and a sashimi mix (tuna, salmon, scallop and ikura over a bed of rice. 🍣🍤🍚 The tempura batter was amazing! It was perfectly flavored and not too thick. The tempura was very crispy and the sauce they gave complemented it so well! 😋💗 My boyfriend got the kohaku tendon set ($17 CAD, pictured on the left) which was a variety of tempura over rice (their best seller). My friend got the kohaku udon ($20 CAD, on the right) which came with the broth on the side. They both also really enjoyed their bowls! ♥️ Definitely give this place a try if you’re visiting in Vancouver 😄😊

Their tempura is not overly greasy and they have so many different kinds of tempura like chicken, baby corn and even an egg! 🍳 I got the Sashimi Aimori Tendon this time. I like this one a bit more. It’s well balanced with the raw fish and fried tempura. Made it a lot easier to finish! 🥣 For dessert we grabbed their Organic Kyoto Matcha Soft Serve. I’m usually not a big fan of Tendon or tempura rice bowls, when I’m not in Japan, because they tend to be a tad too oily or greasy for me and it gets surfeiting after a while. The ones from @kohaku_sabo at Chinatown Point, however, was a delight! Carrying a new brand of Tendon Kohaku after their renovations, their rendition of these deep fried delights were crisp but light, and I had no problems finishing all of the freshly-fried tempura items that were dressed with their in-house Kohaku sauce in my bowl! My wife also loved the Thick Salmon Cutlet on Flavoured Rice bowl. The salmon cutlet sat on top of a bed of rice, tomatoes, cabbage shreds and avocado, served with a side of a whole egg in tartare sauce and a heap of Ikura (salmon roe) alongside a shot of their seasoning sauce. The myriad of ingredients made every mouthful an explosion of flavour. We also had an interesting Japanese fusion dish, the Carbonara Udon. I like that this wasn’t as thick and cloying as I expected it to be and poking thru the egg yolk and mixing it in to the udon was a fun experience! We ended our meal with the Mochi Mochi Dango where we got to try our hands at grilling the balls of mochi and pairing it with condiments like red bean paste, crushed peanuts and soy sauce! The latter reminded me of my time in Japan! It was a pretty unique way to end our meal! [NEW] 𝗞𝗼𝗵𝗮𝗸𝘂 𝗦𝗮𝗯𝗼 is a new brand under @kohaku_project serving authentic tendon and other Japanese dishes like udon noodles and green tea parfait🍛 We visited one of their 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗿 outlets in SG and tried the famous tendon and signature mains!!⬇️ 🍤🍤 𝗞𝗼𝗵𝗮𝗸𝘂 𝗧𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗻 $𝟭𝟵.𝟴𝟬 Large variety of tempura items like prawns, squid, chicken and corn in addition to the usual veggies!🤩 Comes with savoury chawanmushi and a Japanese egg mayo sauce mix that was surprisingly good - tangy and served as a nice dip for the tempura. Sufficiently filling and satisfying!👌🏻 4.3/5⭐️ 🍣🍣 𝗜𝗸𝘂𝗿𝗮 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗞𝗮𝘁𝘀𝘂 𝗗𝗼𝗻 My unexpected favourite!🥰 Salmon was tender on the inside and crispy on the outside, didn’t have that fishy taste so it was quite palatable! Avocado was a nice addition for some creaminess, would highly recommend this💯 4.5/5⭐️ 🍜🍜 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗸𝗼 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗜𝗸𝘂𝗿𝗮 𝗨𝗱𝗼𝗻 $𝟮𝟮 Very umami with the generous amount of mentaiko sauce, uni and ikura🤤 Recommended to share tho cos it gets jelak due to the intense flavours!! 4/5⭐️ 🍵🍵 𝗜𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗮 𝗟𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲 $𝟳.𝟱𝟬 Matcha flavour was prominent and not as bitter as expected, mixes nicely with milk for a creamy consistency😌 I don’t really like anything matcha but this helped to cleanse the palette and complements the dishes so I ended up finishing every drop of it!
