✨The New Couple in 5B by Lisa Unger (Audio) 🗝️ Writer Rosie and actor Chad are struggling to make ends meet when they inherit an apartment in the historical Windermere building. Not only is it a big upgrade in space, but since Rosie is writing a true-crime book about the (multiple) murders and suicides that took place in the building, it will make her research that much easier. Unfortunately the bad news isn’t over yet... This was good! My first thriller by this author and I’m already looking forward to reading another. I loved the setting - love a pre-war NYC apartment building! The story has a bit of a supernatural element, which I don’t tend to gravitate towards in novels I read, but was well done in this book. I didn’t love the narration (I found it very melodramatic) so I’d suggest sticking to the physical copy. 👍 Rating: Recommended

Day 6 Another busy day running around the rainy city. I went to see Granville Island and its famous market. Followed by a stop over to Chinatown and eating at a delicious restaurant called Tokyo in April. I walked for a bit and saw Steam Clock and dried up in the Marine Building. Somehow I was able to finish everything early, so I went to Queen Elizabeth Park and looked at the flowers. On a clear day you can see Vancouver city from there, but yesterday that was not doable. Lastly, I stopped by the Vancouver Public Library and saw their beautiful open rooftop. An upside to long travel layovers? Being able to visit local libraries… including those with my first book in their collection! As a debut indie author, it’s magical to me that libraries across Canada are acquiring The Semicolon, a story I once thought would never see the light of day. Here it is last week at the Vancouver Public Library @vancouverpubliclibrary, along with some of the stellar librarians who helped me track it down on the shelves! (It’s on the New Arrivals display if you decide to check it out for yourself). VPL has *three* copies of the book in their system. This one is at Central Branch in the world-famous Library Square, which occupies an entire downtown block. A massive thank you to these librarians for helping me bring this moment to life and indulging me with this photo! Here's to International Read to Me Day. There is something beautiful and transcendent when someone close reads to you. For many, as children our parents read to us, often at bedtime. It was a practice in calming and in the hope of making one sleepy to ensure a good nights sleep, but I think it was so much more. Perhaps it was a primer for the “Little Grey Cells” getting ready to embark on their nightly journey to Never Never Land and beyond. Simple yet powerful. I encourage everyone to read to one another and perhaps reconnect with this universal age-old tradition. Before the written word, we were storytellers. Fiction, non-fiction, news of the day, whatever, although I personally enjoy reading fictional stories as it gives you the benefit of adding your own vocal embellishment to different characters which can make it even more entertaining. ✨The Perfect Couple by Elin Hilderbrand 💍 This was the first Elin book I read and it started me on quite a binge! This one was one of my favourites; it had those beachy vibes PLUS a murder mystery - what more could you ask for? Preparations are underway for Celeste’s luxury wedding on Nantucket, when her bridesmaid is found floating dead in the ocean. I could not put this down - it moved along at a very quick pace and I couldn’t wait to learn what would happen next. The novel featured many compelling characters, some romance, some drama, lots of family secrets, and rich people behaving badly - all my favourite things! 👍👍 Highly recommended!
