On April 27, 2023, I fell over some raised sidewalk and ruptured my right quadriceps tendon which required surgery. I had surgery on May 4, 2023. My surgeon told me it would take 12 months to recover. That’s why you haven’t seen me in any races. When I tell folks about the fall and the fact I had surgery, the first thing that said is usually “We’re getting old” as if to say we’re supposed to get old, fat and die. I’m not sure where that narrative comes from but I don’t subscribe to it. I completed 7 months of intense physical therapy. I thank God that on this morning, April 27, 2024, one year to the day of the fall, I was able to complete 20 miles at an decent pace. The work is just starting; there’s much more work to do. Berlin is calling. Thank you to those that noticed I hadn’t posted any races and checked on me. Client Testimonial 📢 Triathlete Charlie came to us with what he believed to be a running injury - he was experiencing pain along the outside of his leg whilst running which started a week after doing a half marathon race. Following a virtual consultation we concluded that the underlying cause of this was in fact his bike set up causing overload of the peroneal muscles alongside stiffness in the ankle joint. We addressed how to overcome this including altering his cleat position and prescribed some strengthening and mobility exercises.
