One morning, I was sat in our kitchen in Frome and my husband, Rich, was getting to work in the garden, constructing a concrete platform. The cement was being delivered by van but it couldn’t fit down the tiny lane behind our house, so Rich had to start carrying it to the garden using a wheelbarrow. Within 10 minutes, three local men (all builders) had come round with their own wheelbarrows to help. It was the loveliest thing to watch: these men helping each other out, activating the feminine energy of community and collaboration. They all went on to do this many more times over the two years we were there, depending on who needed things to be lifted/offloaded etc. My brother is also a builder and runs a construction/renovation company in London, near where I’m now living. They’re working on a house near us and I see the camaraderie amongst them. Calling each other for a hand, passing things over, keeping each other safe. In one of the most seemingly masculine work environments - because it’s almost always 100% male builders on site - there is a feminine side to it. Also, men are able to work hard in this way, because there’s so often a woman at home doing the kids, cooking, cleaning etc. Men lean into one another in the workplace and women at home. And as women, we need to lean into the people around us too. Ask for help, accept help, recognise that in the same way my brother and his men can’t lift a scaffolding pole alone, nor can a woman work and mother alone. I will never forget our talks during Covid - strategizing about how our businesses { & our families } would have to pivot to survive…. Now here we are on the ‘other side’ sharing our wins. Not just surviving, but in many ways we’re stronger, more resilient, & redefining what success truly means. . I am honored to have such a strong & supportive circle of women around me. “The female reproductive system is the crowning achievement of human evolution and reproduction. Efficient and highly adaptable, seven hormones work in symphonic relationship to cause four highly refined processes to take place in a given monthly cycle: the development of multiple follicles, ovulation, the building of the lining of the uterus (to prepare for possible conception), and the release of that lining when conception does not occur. We then went around, round-robin style, getting to know one another by answering the question: “What’s something you would like us to know about you right now, at this very moment?” We participated in a facilitated Trataka (or candle-gazing meditation) practice, where we cultivated experiences of light and warmth. We concluded the practice with a prayer to the God of fire, Agni, stoking our own metabolic fires, and awakening our ability to absorb and assimilate transformation and wisdom. We took a few minutes to journal on our reflections after the practice, and went around the zoom room taking some sharing. We spent the last 15 minutes sharing our “sparklers” from this past year, which were acknowledgements and achievements that we either acquired, learned, or created as shiny lights in the dark of our own shadows. By the end of the session, we were waving magic wands, holographic pointers, and fun-shaped pens around as we celebrated our sparklers. Join us next week, as we engage in the practice of creating a Sankapla, or sacred intention, a seed of the future fulfilled. We will be creating these in language, and then planting the metaphysical seed of our intention for the new year deep within our consciousness through a Yoga Nidra practice. I sat in the car driving down the freeway to the Minneapolis Airport, and I saw countless HUGE billboards for anti-abrtion along the roadside a haunting reminder as the “holy truth” is told, being that: woman, your body is still not your own woman, you are eternally sinful and may only be redeemed if you follow the “rules” in the UK, where I am from and where I live, we don’t see things like that OUT LOUD and so obviously, we can remain in the bliss of ignorance, I admit and seeing those billboards felt like a little (or large) slap-in-the-face-reminder of oh shit, yep there it is 😳 a stark example of what we still have to work on for our Sisters who are still suffering under these insane laws (and many others in other countries and in other ways) because this is an(other) example of shameless misogyny at large #misogynyonthemotorway lol, funny but not funny and it made me think, wow - we, women, HAVE to be the advocates and activists of our own power because our power is collective, it’s ripple effect so whether you take a stand in global politics, focus on your local community, or start by bringing conversations to the dinner table - it’s important you use your voice for change no one else will do it for you or they might assume you don’t care and I don’t believe we have to fight every cause, it’s impossible (don’t fall into the shadow Martyr) but I do believe we must pick one, whichever is the closest to our hearts be it feminine liberation, finding a cure for cancer, fighting social injustice, climate solutions... there are hundreds to pick from but if you, like myself, want to resurrect the Feminine to a place where we can wake up everyday knowing our bodies are OURS, we have to SPEAK UP and do something about it so, choose your thing - and do something for it today I’d love to know what the cause closest to your heart is, if you feel like sharing, drop it in the comments ❤️🔥
