There are victors and victims caught in the throes of mortal combat. The man versus man theme is prevalent in this rendition between the sacred and the profane. The temporality of our existence is the imaginative power of art to transcend the ordinary, everyday existence we all feel needs justification for the trials and temptations we undergo as human agents in our journey towards our final exit out of this world. Some will live life well, others will not but the end of mortality is the same for all, we will all exit one way or another. We cannot stop ourselves from exiting but we can decide what kind of existence we will experience by the choices we make. Sher Mandal, a building situated in Purana Qila, is believed to be built by Sher Shah Suri in 16th century. Famously this is the building where the Mughal emperor Humayun, while descending the steps, heard the announcement for the evening prayer, he unfortunately lost his balance and slipped upon the marble, falling headlong from the top to the bottom of the stair. Red Fort, the fort of Shah Jahan when he shifted his capital from Agra to Delhi, still stands as a marvel in the everyday hustle bustle of Chandni chowk. Built in 1639, Red fort served as the throne of Mughal Empire until the end of the dynasty.
About 14 million people are thought to have abandoned their homes in the summer and fall of 1947, after partition, when colonial British administrators began dismantling the empire in southern Asia. Estimates of the number of people killed in those months range between 200,000 and 2 million.
Shish Gumbad, also spelt Shisha Gumbad, is a tomb from the last lineage of the Lodhi Dynasty and is thought to have possibly been constructed between 1489 and 1517 CE. The Shish Gumbad houses tombs of an unknown family that may have been a part of the Lodhi family and a part of Sikandar Lodi's court.
Located in the southern side of the Tughlaqabad fort, the tomb of Ghiyasuddin Tughlaq, the first Tughlaq ruler of India, was accustomed between 1320 AD- 1325 AD along with the grand fort. The Tomb houses three tombstones with the absence of the marble covered Mihrab, plasterwork and any decorations. Other than the Tomb of Ghiyasuddin Tughlaq, the Tomb structure also houses the graves of his second son, Sultan Muhammad Adil Tughlaq Shah, and his wife, Begam Makhdima Jehan.
Built by Khan-I-Jahan Junan Shah, prime minister of Emperor Firoz Shah Tughluq (r.1351-1388) in 1386 the Kalan Masjid, or Black Mosque and was once the principal mosque of the city of Firuzabad. This mosque is one of the seven built by Khan e Jahan Telingani and his son Juna Khan in Delhi. The Kalan Masjid is located in Mohalla Qabristan near Turkman Gate.

The Old Lady Willington Park, now known as Lodhi Garden, is dotted with monuments of Sayyid and Lodhi Periods, Tomb of Sikandar Lodhi is the tomb of the second ruler of the Lodhi Dynasty, the tomb was built in 1517–1518 CE by his son Ibrahim Lodi. It is the first garden tomb in Indian subcontinent and is India’s earliest surviving enclosed garden tomb.
Kabootar-Baazi found great patronage in India during the Mughal period when Kabootar-Baaz from Baghdad, Turkey, Iran and Egypt flocked to the court around 1500s. Many households in Old Delhi continue to keep this rare sport alive on their closely knit terraces.
Ghazi Malik suggested his Khliji master to build a fort on a hillock in the southern part of Delhi to which his king jokingly replied, to build the fort himself when he would become king. When Ghazi Malik assumed the title of Ghiasuddin Tughlaq and became the first sultan of the Tughlaq dynasty, he established Tughlaqabad as the third historic city of Delhi in 1321.

South Block is one of the two buildings that are part of the Secretariat building designed by Herbert Baker. The building is made of pink and yellow sandstones. Much of the building is in classical architectural style, yet it incorporated Mughal and Rajasthani architecture style and motifs in its architecture. Nizamuddin Dargah is the dargah of one of the Sufi saints, Hazrat Shaikh Khwaja Syed Muhammad Nizamuddin Auliya (1238 - 1325 CE), situated in the Nizamuddin West area of Delhi. Nizamuddin Auliya, like his predecessors, stressed love as a means of realising God. For him his love of God implied a love of humanity.

The book inspired us and provided us underpinnings for our documentary. We had the opportunity to have a discussion with Mr. Dalrymple before indulging in this amazing experience of filming the amazing stories and structures the capital has to offer.
Zafar Mahal was constructed during the reign of Bahadur Shah II in 1842 and named after him. The pavilion, constructed in the middle of a water tank was used as a swimming pool by the British troops after occupying the fort in 1857.
Qutb Minar Complex is dominated by early thirteenth century stone tower, Qutb Minar. It is a tower adjoining Quwwat-ul-Islam mosque (first mosque built in Delhi after Islamic conquest). The purpose of minaret was originally to call for faithful prayer but is too tall to have served such purpose so it simply signifies a victory tower proclaiming triumph. Standing at the center of the Quwwat-ul-Islam, the Iron Pillar, has never ceased to amaze archeologist. According to the inscription on pillar, it may have been located to elsewhere. The pillar is said to have resisted corrosion because of its pure composition of iron, a high presence of phosphorous, and the method of casting.
