The Ar Roj displacement camp in Syria is an official camp for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Al-Hasakeh Province. The Indonesian woman shared with the 'ruangobrol' team about her life, which is far from normal, as she goes about her daily life there. She has been trapped there for about 6 years. During her time there, she feels more like she's in a prison than a displacement camp. Freedom is severely restricted, even though each family head gets their own shelter, typically a tent made of thick paper covered in plastic. Besides the discomfort of living there, she also mentioned that the tents are not suitable for facing the various Syrian weather conditions. During the scorching hot summers and freezing winters, sometimes even with snow, the conditions are harsh. Adventure therapy is something that we have been using in the UK for many years. It’s a great way to face fear, build confidence, escape the every day, and get some exercise. CV Hub and Job platforms at OCC Greece 💼 In our CV Hub, not only can participants create CVs with their personal competences, work experience, educational background and interests, but they also have access to online platforms to find jobs! 🌐 During the last workshop, our volunteers presentent “Adama Job Center”, an online job-matching platform developed by Catholic Relief Services (CRS) in partnership with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency. 🗂️ The website provides in person (in Athens) and remote employability services for people on the move in Greece by linking people looking for jobs with prospective employers. ‼️ People on the move with a variety of skills and knowledge too often aren’t given direct access to social and professional opportunities. Their employability is hampered by the geographical isolation of camps, feelings of discrimination, distrust of employers and lack of mediation services in the Greek labor market. Therefore opportunities such as reliable online platforms and job centers are essential to encourage inclusion in the job market. Having to tell a family that they need to return to a country which has sentenced them to imprisonment for life because of their choice in faith; just because a bunch of entitled and detached politicians think it’s best to do so, has become the most difficult conversation that I have ever had in the 29 years of my life. Here’s a list of people who will be impacted by this bill: 1- families seeking asylum with their children as they flee a country which has unfairly prosecuted them 2- students sacrificing everything they have and know just so they can access some what of a normal life as their home country is refusing to do so 3- Australian citizens who at one stage left their home country in hope of a better future. Our volunteer Alison tells us: “Thank you to @stfrancishospice for organising a wonderful well-being walk in the countryside. #Refugees and #asylumseekers came from Afghanistan, Iran, Somalia, Yemen, Albania, Pakistan, Sudan and Ethiopia. It was a joyful afternoon with lots of interesting information from the Walk Leader about the wildlife, plants and local history. We heard how G’s grandma used to make nettle soup back home in Ethiopia and a small herd of deer kindly posed in a field so everyone could try out the binoculars. Coffee and a chance to chat in the cafe was a great way to finish our outing. I membri dell’equipaggio della nave della ong #JugendRettet erano accusati insieme ad altre persone di #Msf e #SavetheChildren di aver favorito l’immigrazione clandestina e di aver collaborato con i trafficanti di esseri umani. L'accusa sosteneva che le attività di soccorso svolte dalla nave Iuventa tra il 2016 e il 2017 avessero in realtà favorito i #trafficanti, ostacolando l'azione delle autorità libiche e incoraggiando gli #sbarchi sulle coste italiane. Tuttavia, il Tribunale ha ritenuto che le accuse non fossero fondate. Non è stata trovata alcuna prova di collaborazione con i trafficanti e le attività di soccorso sono state svolte in coordinamento con le autorità italiane e nel rispetto delle norme internazionali. Nel 2016 era stato disposto anche il #sequestro dell'imbarcazione luventa della ong Jugend Rettet, che nel frattempo ha subito danni enormi diventando inutilizzabile.
