“Wabi-Sabi” Wabi Sabi: The Japanese Art of Impermanence Taken from the Japanese words wabi, which translates to less is more, and sabi, which means attentive melancholy, wabi-sabi refers to an awareness of the transient nature of earthly things and a corresponding pleasure in the things that bear the mark of this impermanence. In traditional Japanese aesthetics, wabi-sabi is a world view centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. Free Spirit 🧵🪡✂️🪷 Continuing my experimentation with lettering (both calligraphic and Typographic) and organic, vegetative forms, I decided to incorporate animals in this piece. Considering the circular shape of the embroidery hoop, I envisioned a pond scene featuring the majestic Koi fish, lotus flowers, leaves, and, of course, a catchy phrase. Using a combination of flat and raised stitches, the fish and flowers stand out with raised stitches enhancing the petals of the flowers and the scales of the fish. Sequins and beads add shimmer to each scale. While perfectly lit supermarkets present their goods as industrial mass-produced items, a visit to the market hall is less dull. The presence of flawed and therefore honest moments makes this place appear warm and welcoming, which passes on to the visitors. Here the result of creating a crazy woolball (ok, it should be called „yarn ball“🤷🏻♂️😊), but woolball sounds funny, doesn’t it. However, the point of adding more flourish layers on top of the first, second,.. is not the name. It becomes crucial adding new layers because you need to find connective areas otherwise it looks like a frame. And in the end you stay with your basic shapes, always🤓. . SIN QUE SIRVA DE PRECEDENTES (o sí). En mi incansable búsqueda me topo frecuentemente con imágenes fantásticas que son convenientemente separadas del rótulo propiamente dicho (esa es la idea de la cuenta) para que este sea el objeto de atención. Pero uno no es de piedra y lo visual le tira mucho, así que hoy me tiro al barro y publico diez imágenes con las que me he topado últimamente y que me han encantado. La 1, 5, 6, 8, 9 y 10 provienen de números de los '50s de la revista alemana CONSTANZE que estoy saqueando últimamente. La 2 es de una de las variantes del logo de COLUMBIA RECORDS en los '50s (y es ideal para una pinchada o para ilustrar una lista de reproducción) la 3 es de la funda interior del disco VENUS AND MARS de WINGS obra de G. Desde su fundación en 1921 DELL PUBLISHING se ha convertido en una de las editoriales más importantes de Estados Unidos y ha publicado absolutamente de todo pero, lo más importante para mi, es la cantidad de libros de bolsillo, novelas baratas (pulp) y títulos de ciencia ficción, misterio y detectives que sacó desde los '40s. De hecho gran parte de mis publicaciones en los comienzos de esta cuenta salía de sus portadas y, cuando alguien hace una réplica de las mismas (@pulp_novels_n_beer) lo primero que se imita es el sello de la editorial.
