We walked through more whitewashed streets of Mykonos. Our next stop were the iconic windmills. Built in the 16th century by the Venetians, these windmills were once used to mill wheat. 🌾 These days they are a fantastic spot to take in the views of little Venice and get some amazing photos. 📸 They are a picturesque landmarks and symbols of Mykonos. After admiring the windmills, we continued on to a quiet beach. 🏖️

Being invited to join our Airbnb host at work turned out to be quite spectacular especially for someone enamoured with ancient architecture. A private tour of the Venetian waterworks of Chania . Fed by an under mountain water table with such purity that its ready to drink with barely any treatment, this water looked more like a rarefied Venetian bathing pool than a municipal water supply. I just wanted to jump in... A real lesson in what lies beneath the surface and behind closed doors; and in accepting invites that may not incite curiosity on first pass; and an echoing lesson from the Venetians on the sense of 'rightness' that comes from successfully combining form AND function. The nasturtium tradition was started by Isabella during the week before Easter. Each spring, this glorious display is timed to celebrate marvelously eccentric Isabella’s birthday on April 14, (184 years ago today). Trails of flowering orange and yellow nasturtium vines make their brief and dramatic appearance tumbling out of windows in the luscious, verdant courtyard, celebrating the arrival of spring at the Museum.
