This intriguing photo received second place in the Fine Art America: It's a Stained Glass World contest. I am so honored to get second out of 318 images entered in the contest. The colorful Ca D’Zan window, designed with Mable Ringling's favorite hues, offers a vibrant view of Sarasota Bay from the Venetian mansion, now a museum, situated on 66 acres along the bay. I think it’s time to pick up a paintbrush again! 🎨🖌️ 1. Although a lot of the museum is classical, there’s also contemporary art by working artists. We baby wore through the galleries and the girls were thoroughly entertained. 🙏🏽 I love the expressive brushstrokes in ‘The Fortune Teller’ by Adam Grant (top R) and the 3D canvas in ‘Matisse Opera’ by Larry Rivers (bottom R). 2. The original 21 galleries have been open since 1932. Perhaps the most famous collection is the 5 Peter Paul Rubens’ ‘Triumph of the Eucharist’ paintings - the other 2 are in the Louvre. It’s jaw dropping to see a Rubens piece in person! 🤩 3. The ‘Verre Eglomise technique (when a piece of glass is painted, gilded and engraved on the back side) is used in ‘The Annunciation’ by Marco Dente De Ravenna, creating a gemstone-like luminosity. The wheels in my head are turning thinking how I can incorporate these qualities into my art 🤔👩🏽🎨 4. ‘Joseph’s Coat’ is a skyspace 🌥️ by well-known installation artist James Turrell. I’m def going to come back at sunset to see it with immersive lighting.. maybe even join one of their yoga classes here! 5. A gorgeous array of ‘lingbi’ (rocks with sculptural shapes) can be viewed in the Asian Art gallery. Shaped by the elements over millions of years, they represent elegant beauty. I absolutely adore textures and nature 💕 so this is so so beautiful to me! 6. Xahina’s favorite piece was the bronzed replica of Michelangelo’s ‘David’.. or maybe just his butt 😂🍑 The courtyard is so stunning, and I could def see myself sketching on one of the benches! 7. The whimsical ‘Dwarf Garden’ is a great place to cool off and get those jungle book vibes 🌿🐒 Reminded me of my home (Hong Kong). 8 & 9. Ending the day at the playground, making our kids so so happy!
