I got the chance to tour Ca d’Zan while I was in Sarasota - it is part of the massive Ringling estate that not only includes the mansion, but an incredible art gallery and a circus museum. This is a must visit if you are in the Sarasota area! John and Mable hired New York architect Dwight James Baum to design the mansion that became known as Ca’ d’Zan (“House of John” in the Venetian dialect). Baum created a masterpiece of the Mediterranean Revival style, incorporating glazed terracotta, colored marble, and stained glass into the house, which blended Italian Renaissance and Venetian Gothic elements with an array of eclectic European designs. At 36,000 square feet and 56 rooms, the house was meant to impress! I have started to call engagement sessions the cake tasting of the wedding photography world 🍰 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You see... there are SO many benefits to stepping in front of the camera with your partner (And your photog!) before the day you say I Do! Think of your engagement session as a warmup for your wedding— a way to get a taste for being in front of the camera together— to eliminate the pressure for perfection that may be on your mind. This is just practice! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I LOVE engagement sessions for so many reasons, but the biggest reason I love them is because they are a mutual learning experience for everyone involved! Here’s why: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✨ I get a feel for what lights you up, what makes you uncomfy & what helps you feel the most YOU in front of the camera. I love going into wedding days with this knowledge, so I can be efficient in creating images that are authentic to your story! ✨ I review my clients’ favorites & downloads from their engagement session so I can see what framing, posing & facial expressions you gravitate towards. This isn’t so I can duplicate everything on a wedding day, but is more to inspire the way I work & the photos I prioritize first! ✨ Having photos taken as a couple can be a little intimidating at first! There can be a small learning curve that comes with getting comfortable & I would much rather this happen BEFORE your wedding day! By the time your wedding arrives, you’ll feel relaxed & more like YOU in front of the camera. ✨ You’ll have a chance to practice with your online gallery before your wedding day! SARASOTA RECAP 🌊☀️🎭 Last week was my first time visiting but I am already planning my return. Sarasota is only an hour flight from Atlanta so it is a great weekend trip! Everyone knows them for their spectacular beaches but I had no idea how lively they are in the arts! From theater, opera, ballet, music and visual arts, they really have it all! I had the pleasure of touring a few theaters and seeing some shows which I really enjoyed like Dial M For Murder at @asolorep , so good! And I absolutely fell in LOVE with @theringling and its stunning displays of art and history. The Historic Asolo Theater (HAT) was originally constructed in 1798 inside a Renaissance-era palace in Asolo, Italy. It remained there until 1931, when it was dismantled to make way for a cinema. The theater’s historic paintings, decorative panels, ornate proscenium, and gilded stage boxes remained in storage until @theringling purchased them in 1949 and reassembled them at the museum. We got to see the coolest thing at the @theringling . It’s hard to describe the detail on this model of the circus created by philanthropist, Howard Tibbals. He was denied use of the Ringling and Barnum and Bailey names so he named it after himself. One of my favorite things is that while you’re viewing it, audio from an actual circus is playing.
