I had a fantastic Victorian print work experience day at #blistshillvictoriantown 😍 The day included coffee, lovely cake and other refreshments, traditionally made fish and chips for lunch and an opportunity to look round the Victorian town museum. Very good value for money. The print experience was fascinating and I felt really absorbed into the 19th century setting - much more so than just with a visit. It was a real eye opener in terms of how long it took to print a simple poster. The posters that I printed will be displayed in my shop. Thank you @summonedbybells and other staff @ironbridgegmt for being great hosts and making us feel so welcome. I'm fine actually! For the uninitiated, this phrase which has come to mean feeling a bit off, unwell, or grumpy - comes from printers running out of a letter type. The individual letter blocks are called "sorts" in printer's language and finding out that you are one 'e' short of a job is very upsetting. Woodworm is never good in a vintage print studio but I had to save this cabinet. I used a lighter filler and against the ink stained backdrop it almost looks like a photo from NASA. Before it was filled it had protective treatment including an incecticide, fungicide, mold resistance and wood hardener. Happy New Year (Hogmanay) 2024! A simple two pass print on buff sugar paper using brown ink. I did this one on my CPL press which I've modified with a hack saw to remove the stoppers and can just squeeze through some vintage wooden type if I use a home made chase. Well it turned out okay. Printing A3 posters on a folio platen is possible when: (a) close register work isn't important (never is here!) (b) stout card is used - say 210gsm up (c) support of the card during feeding is possible (no H&S guards etc) (d) you have patience to run the same job several times. This was a 5 print run job. Lesson learned: don't mix a colour for one print run then return a week later and expect to mix exactly the same colour. Experimenting with cyanotype printing 💙☀️🌿 Quite different from my illustration work but thought I’d share them on here as it’s something I’d like to explore more (with significantly more practice! 😅) I’m surprised how vivid they came out though! Cyanotypes are one of the oldest photographic printing methods, and is also the origin of the term ‘blueprint’ used for technical drawings!
