My second new dress for Bath next weekend is this 1860s sheer summer dress. I know it's not really appropriate weather yet, but I had this fabric in stash for a summer picnic dress and I figured I'll just wear some long sleeved white shirt underneath against the cold. I'm mostly planning to wear this for breakfast inside anyway, as we'll skip on the rowing this year. While my ballgown took nearly 4 months, this dress was finished in 10 days to meet the deadline 🙃. I'm quite happy with how the crossover front with pintucks turned out in particular, as that was the bit I was the least sure about how to achieve it initially. Better pictures of my completed green Natural Form ensemble. I started making this ensemble in early 2020 for a different historical fashion show (that show, I think there were more pins than stitches in the whole thing). In 2020, the front edges of the green bodice met; thankfully, I still had enough homespun to make the central placket. It’s made from a lightweight cotton twill and a cotton homespun plaid and mostly Truly Victorian patterns. The dickie is a vintage eyelet purchased at a flea market. My corset is a custom corset from @Redthreaded and my boots are @AmericanDuchess. The lovely bonnet is my newest acquisition from @atelier_mela_hats (I love it so!). Finishing touches (well, fastenings) for my 1860s ball gown. If and when I have more time, I’ll add the same trim as the original bodice I copied this from has, but I’m not sure I’ll manage that between now and Saturday! I’m hoping to manage to go over all the buttonholes by hand before then, but if I don’t, the machine stitching will hold. It’s a beautiful fabric, though the colour is a nightmare to photograph… The underpinnings are very much cobbled together (I’ll try and do a post on that at some point) on account of a lack of time and energy, but they’ll hold together for one evening’s dancing. I’ll finish them properly at a later date - for now, I just have to remember that they’re good enough, even if they’re not perfect! SOLD The rarest of rare! 1890-1900 Victorian/Edwardian Cambridge bowler hat. This was somewhat of a popular style from 1880 to 1910 but remained as a niche style worn by famous people such as Winston Churchill up until the 1930s. It is in a huge size 7 1/4! This will fit a 58-59 cm head. Crown measures to about 14.5 cm high which is almost as tall as a top hat! Felt is still stiff and overall in great condition. Antique hats from this era are extremely rare to find in good conditions which makes this hat even more special! 🔹The Buccaneers (2023-)🔹 In the Buccaneers Lizzy and Virginia are introduced at court which means that they wear court gowns. Brittish court gown did change with fashions but some elements of it didn’t change. These were a long train, which was often seperate and minium of three yards, three ostrich feathers in the hair and a veil. The gown was supposed to be low cut and long like evening wear even though court introductions were usually during day time. On the left is princess Mary of Teck in her court introduction gown in 1886. This is a decade after the Buccaneers is set but there are still a lot similarieties as court dresses should.
