O livro é um tributo do autor à Escócia e às suas culturas. A palavra Aye é um arcaísmo com várias proveniências linguísticas, que ainda hoje é utilizado na Escócia com o significado de sim. I'm starting to get rather embarrassed about my lack of posts! The last window I wrote about and put up on the website was back in July '23. The rest of that year was a write-off as far as doing any more work on the website went, then when I thought some time was opening up at the beginning of this year, it closed down again as a few more things took all of my time and attention. However, this time, I really do hope to have the opportunity to get back to writing up the windows. I've made a start on Window 14: The Eucharistic Bread, which forms a pair with Window 15: The Eucharistic Wine, appropriately positioned on either side of the altar. For now, here's the Scottish poet Robert (Robbie) Burns' "Wee, tim'rous beastie" from his 1785 poem, "To a Mouse". The wee beastie is nesting in a field of wheat in the Eucharistic Bread window. I picked up a copy of our local library magazine today and discovered this article about the recent 'Robert Burns' performance at Greerton Library. This concert grew from my offer to play Scottish tunes in the background to a large gathering of enthusiastic listeners with organized and impromptu poetry recitations along with interesting anectdotes and lively discussions. Tauranga City Libraries have since organized for me to play the harp on a regular basis at each of the four Libraries (the first Thursday of each month). Most famous for his song “Auld Lyne Syne”, Robert Burns (1759-1796) was a Scottish poet who focused on universal love and nature in his works. Burns was born into a farm family in Ayrshire and was educated in schools and on his family’s farm. When he was younger, his earliest poems were songs to local girls he was in love with. The Herman Muehlstein Rare Book Collection at @ holds one of his first works, “Poems Chiefly in the Scottish Dialect,” which was published in 1786. Burns also published “Sapphires from Burns,” in 1900 which focused on romantic poems along with illustrations of flowers. Burns influenced the literary world for years to come with his poems and ideas of socialism and liberalism inspiring many authors, including J.D. The colour blue plays an important role in ancestral magic of the Scottish Borders. Being the color of woad dye, it was famously used by our ancestors and has become a symbol of their courage and ceremony. It is also the hue associated with the face of our ancient ancestral mother of our people, who is depicted as the Carline Queen, Caledonia, Beira, Cailleach Bheura and other names. In our family, when winding skeins of dyed blue wool or twine, a single ball (called a clue, cloo or clew) was set aside and dedicated for specific magical use. One practice of divination involves throwing a blue clue over the wall of the village churchyard while retaining hold of one end. Slowly pull the string towards you until you feel tension. In this position you may start your communication with the ancestral dead or the Carline herself. If you feel a tug, you can accept this as an indication of assent to your queries. Robert Burns (1759-1796) writes of a similar method in the poem 'Halloween'. Fantastic turnout for the first in our series of 'Start at ART!' guided walks this summer. The Alloway Railway Tunnel (ART) is an inclusive community project which is creating a stunning art installation within the old railway tunnel at the Brig O’ Doon, Alloway. Once complete, the mural will have helped to rejuvenate this part of the village and will be one of the largest murals in Scotland. Today was about unveiling the first section of this groundbreaking mural in all its glory! After a fascinating, informative talk by @allowaytunnelproject Trustee Shelagh McLaughlin, we enjoyed a guided walk in the fresh air around the village of Alloway, learning about the social history of this beautiful part of Ayrshire which is, of course, the birthplace of Robert Burns!
