I'm Michaela, and I use only second hand/used/recycled materials to make storytelling sculptures for interiors. I love colour and bling and sparkle. I use real life events and true stories and then mix them with my imagination to tell stories of (usually) triumph over adversity. I'm based in Rugby in the Midlands, have a workshop in my garden and my practice is spent making, exhibiting, teaching, delivering workshops and collecting gorgeous objects. This weekend I was at a Spring Fair at fellow FindAMakers studio @suepryke with other makers, and was asked about being part of the FindaMaker family. I have to say that it has been hugely beneficial in so many ways. The workshops and professional development. The networking and opportunities. But most of all the FAMILY. Reposted @jennypinskistudio It's been a little while since I've woven a large rug, whilst decorating and organising my new studio I have mainly focussed on tapestry techniques. This photo of work in progress from a little while ago is inspiring me to get the 'big loom' back up and running very soon. The technique I used for this piece was an extra warp pattern, the diamonds are built up of a beautifully soft wool and the base structure uses a Berber rug wool which is not as soft but very hardwearing. ...
