Finishing off the weekend with my Hot Chocolate Tart 🍫 Satisfy your sweet cravings with this decadent rich chocolate tart which includes the NEW @nutraorganics Collagen Hot Chocolate! Base - 300 grams digestives 70 grams butter 60 grams of almond butter Filing - 500 grams cream cheese 250 grams mascarpone cheese 60 mls maple syrup 3 tbsp @nutra Collagen Hot Chocolate Topping - 150 grams thick cream 150 grams dark chocolate • Create the base by melting butter and almond butter, mix until smooth. • Combine with crumbled biscuits, pour the mix into your choice of pan, and press it down firmly and evenly I used a tart pan for mine. • Whip together the cream cheese, mascarpone, maple syrup and Hot Chocolate powder until smooth. • Spread the mixture over the prepared base and sit in the fridge while preparing ganache. • Melt dark chocolate and cream together until smooth, let cool slightly and then pour it over the tart. April is Autism awareness/acceptance month; Autism is neurological and affects how a person thinks, feels, interacts with others, and experiences their environment. Archie has his own abilities, challenges, preferences, and personality just like anyone else does; but a lot of the time he has trouble communicating his wants/needs and for us to communicate with him too as he is non speaking. He also can get overwhelmed in crowded and visually busy places. Meltdowns happen often. We often get the stares, glares, comments and judgement while we are out in public because as a society we are taught to “behave” a certain way, so I often get told by strangers “ohh he’s a handful or “he’s a naughty boy” - now I know you’re sitting there thinking “there’s NO WAY anyone would say that..” well they do.. and they say it to me.. in front of my son like he’s nothing. Autism is still so misunderstood and the world is far too judgemental, it’s the last thing we need as parents trying to advocate and do the best we can for our children 🧡

The stares. The whispering. The eye rolls. The passing comments. The judgemental people watching on while we are mid public meltdown. I hear people say “he’s a naughty boy” to their children. I’ve had people say to me “he’s a handful” and “if that were me...” In this moment (or any moment really) none of this is helpful; if anything it heightens my anxiety and it upsets me that my child is being labelled as “misbehaving” - I shouldn’t have to explain to people that we encounter out and about that Archie is autistic. I think as parents we already endure enough judgement; so instead of being judgemental, in those moments offer a helping hand instead.

I’ve been sitting on this for a while now, last year in August Archie received a diagnosis of Autism and moderate global development delay which has been a lot of navigating and learning for our family. I wasn’t sure if I was going to share; not because I’m ashamed, but because his diagnosis is not up for discussion or unsolicited advice. Archie is non verbal so we are working on communication at a pace to not overwhelm him, while also working on additional daily tasks being incorporated into his routine. Anytime I share anything about pregnancy loss; whether it be a personal experience on a post/story or share something from @pinkelephantssupport etc I joke you not, I get at a minimum one message along the lines of “you need to move on, you got your baby.” EVERYTIME! I will NEVER forget being in that cold sterile room by myself waiting for the sonographer. I’ll will NEVER forget the sound of silence while my belly was scanned and scanned searching for a sign of life. October 15th is International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Day. I never thought that this would be my reality.. until it was. In 2020 we lost three pregnancies. Three little loves that were wanted and loved more than anything in the world. It broke me in a way I never thought possible. We live in a society where we are taught not to announce a pregnancy until the “safe period” of 12 weeks, and if you don’t make it to that time you basically suffer in silence. I still feel like it’s important to talk about our pregnancy losses because they weren’t a phase. It’s not a case of “oh that happened and now I have a baby, I’m good” - it changed my life forever. I often think about the angels we lost. It’s not something that ever goes away. Our angels were due on 17th October 2020 (our wedding anniversary), 27th November 2020 and 9th April 2021. Those dates are forever with me. So tonight I lit a candle at 7pm to remember our little loves, and for all the angel babies in the sky. I don’t think I’ve ever felt anything worse in parenthood then mum guilt. Lawson is in the bath while I’m trying to cook dinner, and he decides to empty a whole bottle of body wash into the bath.. I lose my shit, I’m not proud of myself, at this point this was the straw that broke the camels back tonight. I yell and I send him to his room and I just sit on the kitchen floor and sob to myself. 5 minutes later he comes out says I’m sorry for emptying the bottle, I’m going to move to the desert because you don’t love me anymore - instantly I hated myself for making him feel like I didn’t love him. I would never say anything like that to my kids, I had told him it was wasteful to empty a bottle and I shouldn’t have to explain that to him because he is almost 6.. but then I realised just that.. he is only almost 6.. me being cranky at him in his eyes made him think I didn’t love him anymore, there’s so many more years for him to learn all these things.. I said sorry for getting angry and that I’ll always love him no matter what.. but far out mum guilt sucks.. sharing this story because I’m almost certain that someone can relate today.
