Meet new member Donna Reierson. Chicago born Donna Reierson is a graduate of the American Academy of Art in that city, majoring in illustration and fine art. She has done freelance murals and designs for restaurants and businesses around Chicago, photo retouching and illustrations for an ad agency, and, after taking years off to raise her family, became an art teacher. She taught art classes to children, including scratchboard lessons for libraries around Chicago, and adult and children’s classes at Blue Spider Art Studio, with instruction in drawing and painting in all mediums. She also taught children’s classes in photography. Now retired and living in Racine, Donna has gotten back into oil painting while continuing with photography. “Most everything I do is about my love of nature. I find that nature is so healing for everything, no matter what the ailment is. In my oil paintings and photography, I just try to share the beauty and peace I am constantly seeing and feeling.” An opening reception will be held for new members on First Friday, May 3rd, from 5-8pm. hi <3 over the next few days i will be posting older works i finished since my account is lacking in a lot of the work i’ve done over the years. this piece originally was not going to exist. the second slide was the first part of it completed, I made that drawing on the last day of my first semester of college. i was running on nothing but a cold brew that made me feel miserably sick. It was 6 in the morning and i hadn’t slept at all due to my horrific sleep schedules LOL and that piece is what came of it. The first slide, the full drawing, was completed as part of a project that was pretty much scrapped and it has been sitting since, waiting for me to do something with it but I have nothing left for it but to post it here. Mike Roth writes: “I've researched online regarding Bob Cassilly's death related to the facility as well as his intentions with regard to the design of what the outdoor park would have looked like. Additionally, I used Google Maps extensively in order to determine the best route in entering without being detected; in order to locate where to inconspicuously park my car and how to walk from it into an ingress point. This led me to entering Cementland in January/February of 2014. I parked on Scranton Avenue on an empty cement pad to the Northwest, then walked South to the train tracks, which I followed Southeast until I was directly West of the facility. Near the train tracks where you would walk along an open path, there was a destroyed vehicle (I believe a white pickup truck) spray-painted with the text "Security" in orange along the door with a manikin in the driver seat, which I initially mistook as a person. I walked past this into Cementland continuing further East into the large warehouse. Inside this structure, I recorded multiple scenes on video, which I used for a video short for music artist Mvstermind. It was between 36-38 degrees that day. Very overcast. We both were extremely cold after being there for around 60-90 minutes, encountering no one else before departing using the same route by which we entered. It pains me to think about what could have been. I have documented many structures within the St. Louis metro area that no longer exist.
