Another vase from my time at Tidal Art Centre. This one has a Varied Thrush on it. I watched the Varied Trush outside my kitchen window and out of my studio window everyday. They are beautiful. We do not have them in Nova Scotia. Le bas-relief intitulé Du zénith au nadir 2 est actuellement exposé @mnbaq dans le cadre de la très belle exposition des gravures de Rembrandt. Pour cette exposition, le commissaire André Gilbert a choisi de mettre en relation certaines oeuvres de la collection du musée avec les magnifiques gravures du maître hollandais. C’est un grand honneur pour moi de me retrouver auprès des oeuvres de Rembrandt ☺️. Le bas-relief Du zénith au nadir a été réalisé @kohler en 2017 dans le cadre d’une résidence arts/industry, et consiste en un assemblage d’ailes d’oiseau en porcelaine. Les ailes (gauche et droite) ont initialement été imprimées en plastique et ont servi de modèles pour faire des moules. Ces moules ont ensuite servi à réaliser de nombreuses ailes en porcelaine. Ce sont les lignes d’impression 3D imprégnées dans les formes moulées qui ont guidé l’assemblage afin de générer une série d’anneaux où les ailes se superposent. At another time, they held a paint brush, helping give people's homes a much needed uplifting makeover. They then held a gardening spade, tirelessly digging into the dirt and helping plants grow. They held a hammer, drill, saw, and trowel as I renovated my house during the years I was home with a toddler. These hands have done a lot of things over the years in preparation to become a potter. We can’t think of a better way to free up some time then to stick an irrigation spike into all those plants that sometimes we over water, under water or just plain forgot about. ....because life gets busy. . Never again will you have to worry, “Did I water the plants this week?” We are in the thick of garden season and these garden irrigation spikes are literally a plant lifesaver! .Our lavender plants so happy with our water irritation spike -so much new growth and we were away an entire week! ❤️💚 Irrigation spikes -just fill an empty wine bottle or beer bottle with water and bury the spike into the ground. Flip the bottle over and let the water slowly go into the soil! VOILA! Go away this summer and your plants won’t even miss you! On average, the bottle should be filled every 6-7 days. They wicked water consistently over the season. The pot’s soil surface will stay dry. On a nature walk in Kelowna not so long ago he said, ‘ that’s clay’. Thanks Richard! The novice in me decided experimenting with this as slip decoration would be a good place to start. Applied thickly with layers of oxides and glaze, the rich chocolate colour and texture created by the wild clay peeks through. The hand built jar is made from commercially bought clay. Just a little handbuilt trinket holder! This was carved out of a solid block of red clay, hollowed out with a small loop tool before adding the lip to the lid for a secure fit. When made this way, the lid only fits flush in one direction, so by carving flowers on one side only, it's easy to tell which way it goes. Hoping the glaze will pool and break nicely over this texture. For Valentine's I made 10 hand made ❤️ plates - all different colours & textures...but as so often happens in the pottery process only 1 survived. This little love heart plate turned out so great & I was happy that 1 made it. Many lessons learned.

The internet overlords just reminded me that 7 years ago I defended my MFA Thesis show Trace. Isn’t it funny how that feels like both a lifetime ago, and the blink of an eye. It definitely does make me feel a bit nostalgic to think back to that show. At the time it felt like such an ending, but it really was just another of life’s beginnings. Marked by fried chicken and sparkling wine (as all big life events should be in my opinion).🥂 Here is a brief excerpt from my thesis paper explaining the title: Trace means many different things to me: it is about the idea of both connecting to the past (tracing backwards), as well as forging a pathway towards the future and how I would like to exist in the world.
