The Rogue Folk Club and CeltiFest Vancouver present the true tales of Tom Crean - Antarctic Explorer, a one man show written and performed by Irish actor Aidan Dooley. Originally premiered at Medway Fuse Festival in 2003, the show went on to The New York International Fringe Festival, where it won the ‘Best Solo Performance Award’. In the same year the show played the Dublin Fringe Festival, where it picked up a ‘Best Actor Nomination’. Since then, the show has traveled around the world. Thomas Crean (1877-1938), dubbed the Irish hero of Antarctica, was an explorer of three of the four major British expeditions to Antarctica. He endured many unbelievable hardships and demonstrated multiple acts of bravery in order to save his fellow navy and expedition team from certain death in Antarctica. Back in Ireland, Tom Crean never spoke about his ordeals and never gave an interview. His stories went with him to the grave. He was rescued from obscurity by the book, ‘An Unsung Hero - Tom Crean’. And now Aidan Dooley’s theatrical production brings Crean’s historical story to life in this award winning performance.
