Pomnik przedstawia króla Jana III na wspiętym koniu, tratującego dwóch powalonych Turków. Sobieski ma strój rzymskiego żołnierza, we wzniesionej ręce trzyma buławę. Pomnik Jana III, ustawiony na osi Pałacu na Wyspie, zamyka północną perspektywę z okien Sali Salomona. Zaprojektowany został przez André Le Bruna, nadwornego rzeźbiarza króla Stanisława Augusta, wykonawcą był zaś Franciszek Pinck. Pierwowzorem monumentu Jana III był m.in. barokowy pomnik konny Sobieskiego znajdujący się w Wilanowie oraz konny pomnik Ludwika XIV autorstwa Gianlorenza Berniniego. Jest to rzeźba typowo barokowa, jednocześnie jedyny wykonany na zamówienie Stanisława Augusta pomnik wolno stojący (drugi w Warszawie po kolumnie Zygmunta). Pomnik został uroczyście odsłonięty 14 września 1788 r. w 105. rocznicę zwycięstwa pod Wiedniem. Stanisław August szczególnie cenił sobie osobę Jana III. Przez polskiego władcę przemawiał jednak nie tylko szacunek dla poprzednika. Pomnik był także elementem antytureckiej propagandy. Wystawiono go po rozpoczęciu w 1787 r. wojny Turcji z Rosją. Polska miała współdziałać w tym konflikcie z Katarzyną II, dostarczając jej wojska. Stanisław August chciał w ten sposób zacieśnić stosunki z Rosją i zabezpieczyć kraj przed nowymi zaborami. I can finally post about my @scrooppatterns Augusta stays! 😊 They were pretty much done last June and I've worn them to our annual historical picnic already, but I've left the daunting task of binding the lower edge for sometime in the future... which, as you can see, didn't happen until almost a year later. 🙃 I've machine sewn the boning channels cause I'm not THAT dedicated (...yet), but everything else was done by hand. They're made with two layers of homemade linen buckram, an outer layer of silk taffeta, boned with synthetic whalebone and bound with linen tape. These were obviously the most time-consuming corset I've ever made, but also ended up being probably the comfiest one. Sold, a pair of 18th century leather Italian heeled shoes, circa 1790 The shoes are made of leather and appear to once have had a black patient finish, they have elegant Italian styled heels and extremely pointed toes. Latchet fastenings had began to fall out of fashion by the 1790s which makes this pair all the more unusual. The shoes are lined in linen and one features a paper markers label for “Filts Makers, St Clements church yard London”. The shoes are in good condition for their age, the leather is sturdy but does have wear to the finish. The fine silk binding has mostly disintegrated leaving the leather and linen lining separate in places. A rare example of an everyday pair or shoes few of which survive. Today I'm sharing a quick peek at my WIP for my own version of the 1787 fashion plate I patterned for #stitchinglamode I'm actually mashing it up a bit with this other plate from the same time (give or take a year) to do those ridiculously fun and flappy draping peplum thingies, lol. I only needed to slightly modify the pattern piece in the book to be longer at the back and made the normal gown skirt with the peplum applied on top rather than sewn to the skirt at the back. Very easy changes to create a really different look! I was hung up on this one for a while (I intended it to be done by end of March, oops) because I got stuck on suitable stash fabric. But I recently unearthed something that would work so I'm back in business on it! Hand sewn shift, petticoats, 1780s chintz gown and ruffles + machine sewn stays and bum pad. The gown is Laughing Moon 182, a robe a l'anglaise with inverted back pleats, made from a @colonialwmsburg reproduction cotton print. Hair is pomaded and powdered hair over a small roll cushion from the @americanduchess hairdressing book. Thomas Gainsborough vibes ✨ It's a wonderful feeling when a long-time costume idea is finally realized. Hand sewn shift, petticoats, 1780s chintz gown and ruffles + machine sewn stays and bum pad. The gown is Laughing Moon 182, a robe a l'anglaise with inverted back pleats, made from a @colonialwmsburg reproduction cotton print. Hair is pomaded and powdered hair over a small roll cushion from the @americanduchess hairdressing book. In the shop at Eighteen Bond Street tomorrow (Sunday April 14) at 7 pm Eastern. “Charlotte” by @pemberleythreadsgirl is a two-piece gown from the 1780s. The overgown has a very tailored pieced back, and a long cutaway skirt, worn over a matching ruffled petticoat. Felicity wears a bum roll under the petticoat for the correct period silhouette. And at her décolletage a silk voile neckerchief trimmed with vintage English cotton lace. At her bodice, a trio of silk flowers with velvet leaves, a supply of which I recently sourced and that I think are just beautiful. Cream gloves, and a green straw floral-trimmed hat with green velvet ribbons complete her look. Hello ! Here’s the first photo of the 1780s Italian gown ! We took advantage of the first signs of spring to take beautiful photos in a really nice floral park, and got reaaally lucky with the weather, so I’m doubly grateful 😃 I realised I have things I need to adjust with this dress because the weight of the skirt is pulling the top toward the back, but I have an idea to fix that ! Sold, a deliciously pink silk bodice dating from the late 1780s This beautiful bodice would have once belonged to a robe a l’Anglaise, the heavily pieced silk suggests a gown that was remodelled several times with the obvious sleeve extensions being added in the late 1780s. I would assume the pretty pink silk of the skirt proved to lovely to escape reuse in the decades that followed. The bodice is lined in linen and would have been closed with pins down the centre front. The neckline is decorated with delicate pinked trim. The narrow back seams taper into a deep point at the centre back waist. The lower edge of the bodice is raw where the skirt has been unpicked. The light silk taffeta is understandably showing a lot of dirt and stains due to its age, there is also shattering around the underarms as the silk is extremely lightweight. Condition aside this is an extremely pretty piece which displays beautifully. Went to the Gustafs Skål soceity annual masquerade ball yesterday and had a great time wearing my faux fur trimmed moiré late 1780s ensemble, socializing with friends like @astridangelica, @veras.making, @marianne_du_bas_breteuil and @kulturessan (as well as new ones like @michaelabox , @blomster_tant and @hannailovisa ). Then I also got a lot if compliments about both my dress and even about my Etsy business (that quite a big part of the Swedish 18th century reenactment community know about by now, because I want to boast a bit 😁). However, there was some people that couldn't come that I actually missed. “The Marquise de Pezay, and the Marquise de Rougé with Her Sons Alexis and Adrien,” by Louise Élisabeth Vigée - Le Brun, 1787. Housed at the @ngadc in Washington DC, USA. My historical recreation is based on the gown worn by the Marquise de Pezay, on the left. In 1789, all pictured emigrated to Switzerland in fear of the French Revolution, though they returned in 1790. One year later, they left once again, to Heidelberg. Nathalie Victurnienne, the Marquise de Rougé, ultimately returned to France in 1798, but her lands had been divided and sold during the revolution.
