🔥NO DEBATE ALLOWED‼️ This debate program in Atlanta is used by the “elite” private schools: Westminster, Galloway and Woodward Academy. If you’ve seen the documents, you know that there are no real counter arguments. It’s more like an activist training club than a debate club. So the debaters are basically evaluated on how many of the arguments in the packet they can cram in to their turn or their argument, and whether they chose the most persuasive ones according to the judges. But it seems to be that everybody starts off with the same premise that it is the proper role of government to do something about climate change, social justice topics and that the Green New Deal is the something. Students are definitely not allowed to use sources not listed in the documents and as you can see those sources are all very biased, many of them are secondary sources as well. Indoctrination camps the “elite” privates have become. There’s no diversity of thought, critical thinking or two sides of an argument or issue especially on the conservative front. The agenda is clear as day. Your children get it. We need more non-linear and neurodivergent thinkers in leadership. Non-linear thinkers do not take the path of least resistance. You can't make a cake with one ingredient. You can make a mess, you can make something with very few extra ingredients, but if you started with just a bowl of flour, without additions you will continue to have just have a bowl of flour. Raise your hand if you’ve heard news worth exploring BUT . . . It came from a source you deemed to be “biased;” that is, tending to take an opposing view on the issue. ❓Did you still read it, or did you skip it? Maybe you’ve been told to “consider the source,” which is an important aspect of thinking critically. But what does it really mean to “consider the source”? 🙅🏻‍♀️ It doesn’t mean to dismiss information outright or accept it outright depending on whether its source is a liberal or conservative publication, think tank, news outlet etc. 🙈 Ignorance towards information is rarely the answer. 🙈 And neither is blind faith towards its source. ✅ To consider the source*️⃣ simply means to bear in mind questions like these: ❓Who wrote it (their background, area of expertise, other writings)? ❓Why they wrote it (e.g. to persuade, inform, spur action, spark thought or debate, incite anger, etc.)? ❓Who it was written for (their intended audience)? ❓When did they write it (is it still timely)? ❓What they might have left out? ❓Can what they are claiming be verified? ❓How their views might influence what they’re telling us? ❓How their views might determine what they’ve chosen NOT to tell us? ✅ Once we’ve read the piece in the context of these questions, we then read a piece on the same issue or occurrence from a source with an OPPOSING view to fill in gaps. 🚨 It’s amazing how much we’re NOT told by both our trusted sources and more blatantly biased ones, so we need to read more than one angle on it to get a fuller account. *️⃣ If a source clearly lacks credibility, we don’t need to waste time on it, but I ask you to consider the questions❓above when determining if it truly lacks credibility or simply endorses a view you strongly oppose. 🧰 Save this in your critical thinking tool box for the next time you consume some news 🗞️. 🖤 Margarita 👩🏻‍💻 And follow me at @diverseinthecity for more on thinking critically about our differences to get the most out of them! #considerthesource #criticalthinkingskills #criticalthought #diversityofthought #opposingviews #differentperspectives #diversitytraining
