The other day we found a small garter snake in the greenhouse! This was quite a surprise and we have no idea how it got in! Our greenhouse is an actual building and the ground level of it is several feet below the actual ground level. We do not leave the doors open and the windows have screens on them. There must be a space that was big enough that the snake was able to come in. It’s perfectly fine if the snake stays around, especially if it will eat some slugs while it’s visiting! We have almost finished the greenhouse this weekend. Just a few finishing touches left, and as I was in there putting gravel in my bench a few creatures came in to investigate. I think the dragonfly may be a female Ruddy Darter. She had all black legs and a black marking which extended down the sides of her ‘face’. Thank you @young_entomologist_2018 and @britishdragonflysociety for your past guidance which has given me a little more confidence in trying to ID this one. DAY 30 ‘A long shot’ @mygardenthismonth If I’d been asked to get a photo of this cheeky squirrel in our greenhouse, I’d have said “well that’s a long shot!” So, I was going up to the green house one day last week and saw the little chap going in via the window. I dashed back to the house for my phone and somehow managed to get this photo! I’m not sure if he enjoyed his work out or not. He swerved the tomato plants, dashed between the aubergines, crashed into the peppers, mountaineered the shelving, trying to avoid my alliums along the way! He’s fast though, I’ll give him that. No real damage done thank goodness, but I think it will be a while before he comes back to the gym!! 🐿🙈🤣 I can’t believe we are at the end of June already.
