Day 18 - Hoover Dam Took the scenic route from Las Vegas to Palm Springs via the Hoover Dam. Its smaller then I would have thought, but that might be because I just recently saw the Grand Canyon and that was so much bigger then I was expecting. We drove back via the historic Route 66 and was lucky enough to find a sign that hasn't been stolen yet. (because its pavement!) Then though a strange community called "Wonder Valley, CA". The government gave people homesteading land grants of 5 acers if they build a fence, home, water tower, and connect it to power... It created this strange looking community in the desert where it just shouldn't exist. My camera died at the end of the trip. Amazing drive to the Hover Dam which sits on the boarder of Nevada and Arizona. If your ever feeling you are not capable - just think mankind built Hoover Dam which is 1,244 feet long at the top. It is 726 feet high from the lowest point of the foundation to the crest. The dam is 660 feet thick at the base and tapers to 45 feet thick at the top.
