An epic day in Paris: a great treat to go with my lovely Como friend @foldedearth to @sennelier1887 where we added a few new half pans to our watercolour boxes. We walked for hours & eventually got to the magnificent St Sulpice. We went in and crowds of diverse Parisians were singing to the Holy Spirit - we sat outside a bar - (I knocked over my beer, we got soaked) we tried out our paints. Then we went to a tiny resto @le_machon_d_henri & ordered proper French food. After we’d eaten I said ‘ooh what did we paint today?’ & took these two little watercolours out of my bag to look at. ‘Did you do those yourself?’ Asked the friendly man at the adjacent table. ‘Oui’ I said. ‘Well Melissa, you said you’d like something for your desk’- he said to his partner across the table. ‘May we buy one?’ I said ‘why not?’ So he asked me how much and I quoted the price we had just paid for the dinner. He handed me the cash, I signed the watercolour & hoopla - a fresh painting made and sold within a couple of hours. Pont Hans-Wildorf Bridge Designed by architectural firm @brodbeck_roulet_architectes , this magnificent bridge spans the l'Arve and connects the lively district of Plainpalais with Les Acacias. The metal structure with a length of 85 metres gives the district an incredible charm, lighting up when the night falls. The spatial structure consists of various element types: three coffers below, two entry portals, two upper ledgers, two main arcs, elliptical diagonals and three envelope curves. The steel structure is composed of boxes, 40x 40 cm, which matches the elliptical shape of the structure. St. Mary’s has strong connections with the Witch Trials of 1612, most of the accused lived within the parish. At this time the whole of Pendle Forest was used by the King for his own private hunting parties. Many people were extremely poor with little or no means of earning a living and so resorted to begging…or theft when they were desperate. Some of them used their own knowledge of plants to make herbal medicines which was a common practice at this time. They offered these cures for sale or said prayers they knew for specific ailments. Living off whatever they could find meant being looked on as a general nuisance. The authorities in the area wanted them out of the way and many were denounced as “witches”.
