“Future World” was a low budget and film school type movie. I bought this movie because I was captured by the cast and dystopian storyline. Luckily it was cheap. Overall I wasn’t thrilled about the performances and storyline. It seemed to be put together fast and without a decent dialogue for the characters. CHERRY (2021) (APPLETV) Proche du film d’auteur, c’est avec un scénario s'inspirant du roman éponyme écrit par Nico Walker, (en partie autobiographique) que les frères Russo (Joe et Anthony) livre un film divisé en 5 parties distinctes qui malgré une certaine "lenteur artistique" se révèle organisé et rythmé. Avec un démarrage, sur un début d’idylle entre Nico (alias Cherry) et Emily, ce jeune couple décide malgré tout d'aller au bout de leurs engagements personnels. Cherry rentre donc dans l'armée en tant qu'aide-soignant et part faire la guerre en Irak. De retour au pays, il est atteint de stress post-traumatique et ne sera plus jamais tout à fait le même... J’aurais tendance à dire que ce n’est pas forcément le propos du film qui fait que celui-ci se dévoile pertinent mais plus la poésie, l’esthétisme et la performance des acteurs. En effet, les registres de jeu y sont variés et évolutifs, on observe alors un Tom Holland en mutation, avec une métamorphose, et une renaissance. C’est avec Ciara Bravo que ce duo franchit, chaque étape de ce calvaire avec brio ! À eux deux, ils portent la charge émotionnelle du film et le rendent plus abouti dans le fond, que ne peux l’être la forme. Car oui le film possède certaines scènes inutiles et encombrantes pour l’ensemble et puis sa durée est clairement trop longue. Séance 20 : Cherry. S'inspirant du roman éponyme écrit par Nico Walker, le film démarre comme une bonne vielle idylle à l'américaine. Il se poursuit comme un film de guerre, enchaîne sur une plongée dans l’enfer de la drogue, passe par le film de braquage et se conclut en drame intense. Ce n’est pas l’histoire qui fait la force du film, c’est sa poésie terrible, son esthétique envoûtante. Les réalisateurs pointent les failles de l'institution militaire, notamment les entrainements humiliants et deshumanisants et qui vont à l'encontre de l'esprit humaniste et rendent les soldats vide d'émotions, ainsi que le manque de soutien psychologique. Il faudra attendre que le héros subisse de plein fouet les ravages de la guerre pour qu'enfin Cherry gagne en intensité. Le film souligne le problème des addictions au opiacés qui détruise des âmes dans le plus grand silence. Les médicaments prescrits le poussent dans la misère, ce qui reflète le system de suivi poussiéreux de l'armé ainsi que la supposition que les soldats puissent réintégrer la société après leur expérience. On n’avait pas vu film sur les dangers de l’addiction aussi prenant, réaliste et fort depuis Requiem for a dream. Plus la fin approche, plus le drame se noue, et plus l’émotion et la tragédie prennent le dessus naturellement. Tom Holland joue à merveille le personnage complexe de Cherry, dont l'âme torturée par le stress post-traumatique de la guerre en Iraq le plonge dans une addiction aux opiacés. Il rend ce personnage en souffrance terriblement attachant malgré ses épouvantables travers. Un joven marginado de Ohio deja la universidad para terminar en la guerra de Irak como médico del ejército, siendo su amor por Emily lo único que lo mantiene vivo. Cuando él regresa a casa como un héroe de guerra, lucha contra los demonios del trastorno de estrés postraumático no diagnosticado y recurre a las drogas para poder sobrellevarlo convirtiendose en un adicto. Al quedarse sin dinero, comienza a robar bancos para financiar su adicción. Lo bueno👍🏼: la transformación y la gran actuación de Tom Holland; muy buenos planos y secuencias; un guión bastante correcto; la cinematográfia es excelente; una muy buena dirección de los hermanos Russo; buen uso del recurso de romper la cuarta pared. Lo malo👎🏼: tiene un metraje demasiado largo; tiene un ritmo cambiante; quiere abarcar varios aspectos con sus subtramas y no termina de explorar ninguna. Conclusión: la película tiene una mezcla de humor y drama que funciona bastante bien. Nos deja un mensaje reflexivo sobre la maduración personal. Es una buena película pero creo que tenian en mente un resultado más ambicioso que no logró alcanzar. Aún así es muy buena la critica que hace con respecto al ejército y como abandonan a sus veteranos. "Cherry" (2021)⠀ ⠀ Finalmente tive a oportunidade de ver "Cherry" e quero começar por dizer "Deus, aqueles irmãos Russo sabem como trabalhar com uma câmara".⠀ A sua visão e capacidade visual de contar histórias são incríveis e ajudam realmente o filme a ultrapassar alguns problemas narrativos.⠀ ⠀ Antes de ver este filme vimos muitas, mas mesmo muitas críticas más, talvez por causa disso as expectativas eram baixas, mas ao ver, e vi as falhas nele, vi muitas outras coisas que realmente aprecio, como o aspecto elegante do filme que mencionei anteriormente com a forma inteligente como os Russos usam a câmara, mas também na história em si que tem momentos realmente altos e momentos poderosos que abordam a natureza humana de uma forma bastante interessante.⠀ ⠀ A representação está bem, e este poderia ter sido o momento alto da carreira para Tom Holland, mas neste filme o seu pior inimigo é ele mesmo, por causa de quão bom e convincente ele é como... Homem-Aranha.⠀ Tal como em "The Devil All the Time", é difícil esquecer a ideia que temos dele, e neste eu tive ainda mais esse problema, ele esteve bem, mas a minha mente e acredito que a mente de muitos outros algo não batia certo, mesmo quando tentam fazê-lo mais velho a sua única opção é dar-lhe um bigode, mas continuo a ver Peter com bigode.⠀ Ciara Bravo também fez um bom trabalho neste filme, e foi capaz de desenvolver uma química com Holland que ajudou bastante, mas em muitos pontos, parecia que ninguém tinha realmente a coragem de ir mais fundo.⠀ ⠀ O maior problema deste filme é a falta de sentirmos o desespero; tudo tinha de ficar mais escuro, o filme, a mensagem, a moral, e ousem acabar com perda e não com um final com sabor a cereja, por isso sim, havia um filme melhor sob tudo isso, mas precisamos de olhar para o filme pelo que ele é e não pelo que poderia ter sido, e isso dito todos os aspectos positivos ainda faz dele um grande filme para ver.⠀ ⠀ Já viste este filme, o que achaste?⠀ Que papel gostaria de ver Tom Holland a assumir?⠀ ⠀ #filmesecenas
"Cherry" (2021)⠀ Review by Big J(JOÃO)⠀ ⠀ Finally I had the chance to see "Cherry" and I want to start by saying "God those Russo Brothers know how to work a camera".⠀ Their vision and visual storytelling skills are incredible and really help the movie overcome some narrative problems.⠀ ⠀ Before watching this movie we saw many, and I mean many bad reviews, maybe because of that the expectations were low, but as I watched, and I did saw the flaws in it, I saw many other things that I really appreciate, like the stylish look of the movie that I mentioned before with how clever the Russos use the camera, but also the story in itself that has really high moments and moments that are powerful human nature storylines that they did address well.⠀ ⠀ The acting is ok, and this could have been a career-defining moment for Tom Holland, but he does struggle in this movie just because of how good and convincing of an actor he is... in Spider-man.⠀ Just like in "The Devil All the Time" it's hard to shake the nice kid Peter Parker idea we have of him, and in this I had the same issue, I did great in the role, but my mind and I believe the mind of many find something is not right, even when they try and make him older their only option is to give him a mustache, but I still see Peter with a mustache.⠀ Ciara Bravo did a good job also in this movie, and she was able to draw some chemistry with Holland, but at many points, it felt like no one really had the guts to go deeper.⠀ ⠀ The biggest problem of this movie is that lack of despair; Everyone had to go darker, the movie, message and morals require all to go darker and dare to end it with loss and not a cherry flavor ending, so yes, there was a better movie under all that but we need to look at the movie for what it is and not what it could have been, and that said all of the positives still makes it a great movie to watch.⠀ ⠀ Have you seen this movie, what did you think?⠀ What role would you like to see Tom Holland take on?⠀ ⠀ A father (41 y/o) & daughter’s (16 y/o) shared love for movies turned into a Blog 🧔🏻👧🏼 .⠀ #unyolo

I Just Saw... Dora and the Lost City of Gold (2019) Director: James Bobin Rating: 6/10 You ever get that feeling of watching something so ridiculous and absurd that you love it? Yeah I loved this, but in a totally a guilty pleasure way. This was surprisingly a really good kids movie with entertaining scenes and fun moments. Isabella Merced does a legit great job as Dora. She brings a lot of energy and positivity to the role, and her giddy and naive nature to her surroundings make for some hilarious scenes. The rest of the cast does a good job for what needs to be done. While the film does have sort of a cheap TV movie quality to it, there are never points where I feel that actors are phoning it in. Everyone seems in on the fact that it’s a Dora movie, and they own up to it. It’s very silly and self aware of itself, and much of the humor is based on the somewhat absurdity of a girl thinking she has an audience of people watching. There’s also some edgier jokes for older audience members, but it never feels forced and honestly it really added to the hilarity of it. I haven’t laughed in a movie as much as I did watching Dora! Aside from this being a good kids movie, if you’re looking to watch this ironically then I think this a good movie to watch with friends IF you understand what you’re getting into. How insane did those Dune images look? ••• * Superman: Red Son: DC’s animated films have all been looking super generic lately. That being said, I liked the film and its message and political themes. I like a film that doesn’t have a cynical ending to it. Fun watch for sure. 3/5 ••• * In the Tall Grass: A bit too long and really boring. There weren’t any real characters for me to latch on to and as a result, the movie became a real chore to watch. I’m also not into the whole Netflix aesthetic. It looks like a Netflix movie which turns me off. 2/5 ••• * Dora and the Lost City of Gold: What a charming and enjoyable little adventure film! Sure, some of the jokes don’t land, but the set pieces are fun, the characters are likable, and that dance scene at the end is a real banger! 3.5/5 ••• * Batman: Mask of the Phantasm: I gotta say, for an animated film, this is pretty dark. Mask of the Phantasm manages to tackle the psyche of Batman in a way that most of the other live-action adaptations failed to do. The animation slays and the voice cast really came to play! This might be my second favorite Batman movie behind Batman Begins. 4/5 ••• * Come to Daddy: It starts off pretty mild, but then it gets crazy pretty quick! Sobreviver na cidade para Dora é como se fosse para qualquer um de nós sobrevier na floresta: um tremendo desafio (e é isso que dá o tom de humor inicial do filme) Mas isso é só o começo, pois sem ter notícias dos pais por dias, Dora se torna mais do que nunca a grande aventureira e, de mochila nas costas, sai mata a dentro com os novos amigos em busca do papi e da mami (nessa fase o filme lembra muito os jogos de aventura de video game com diversas fases para serem ultrapassadas e que desperta o raciocínio dos personagens para conseguir seguir em frente) Tive uma impressão logo no começo que essa Dora adolescente era muito "infantilolóide" demais, pois mesmo eu gostando dessa pegada de "estranha no ninho", achei que ficou um pouquinho exagerado. Já se encaminhando para o fim, eu já fui me acostumado e independente de qualquer coisa, a atriz mandou muito bem no papel. Tecnicamente falando, achei que em muitas cenas a floresta ficou um pouco artificial e parecendo produção feita para TV. Já os animais de computação gráfica ficaram muito bem feitos, porém em contraste com a realidade do longa, transpareciam muito artificiais. "Dora and the Lost City of Gold" Review by Big J At the start of the year if I were asked to bet on what would be the worst movie of the year I would easily bet all my money on the Live version of Dora, even after some good reviews I was still on the fence, yet I am proud to always give a chance to every movie no matter how sure I am it will suck. I have to say I was right... not on the part it sucks but on the part that everything deserves a chance, Dora is one of the most entertaining movies that I saw all year and not only its funny but in some ways it is the best Tomb Raider movie we got. The secret of this movie is that the team behind it knew exactly what they had in their hands, they had a ridiculous property that does not translate from cartoon to live-action... unless you embrace the silliness and add more and more to it to make it meta and a commentary on the original. Apart from the sequel of Alice in Wonderland, James Bobin showed he was the right guy for the job because of his work on the muppets, still, the muppets is a cool property with a great track record before him so in this he had a chance to show he can do a movie about literally anything. The casting was great, and every actor brought precisely the right energy to what the movie required but no one was really on par with Isabela Moner that was the perfect Dora, and if that could sound as a joke, believe me, she gives a big step in her career because not many A list actresses would pull this off like her. This is an excellent movie for kids and families, but I have to say this is one of the movies I was more impressed this year, things like the drug sequence and how Michael Peña character deals with his daughter breaking the fourth wall are hilarious and on top of it all is full of great action and Indiana Jones-like of exploration and puzzle-solving that I was in no way expecting, and a 3.5 stars in a Dora movie is a 5 star movie in any other project.
