Last night I decided to watch the 2016 thriller SHUT-IN. I had never heard of this thriller that popped up on HBO Max last night and I decided to watch it because it sounded creepy. It’s about a child psychologist (played by Naomi Watts) who is isolated in a snowy cabin in the middle of nowhere in Maine with her invalid step son who she is solely caring for after her deceased husband and him got into a car accident. And as a blizzard approaches their area, creepy things start happening and the Naomi Watts starts to question her reality. It very much had The Lodge vibes. Oliver Watts plays her boss (or personal therapist?) and Jacob Tremblay plays one of her patients! Charlie Heaton - of Stranger Things game - plays her stepson. This doesn’t have the greatest reviews on Letterbox’d but I really enjoyed it. Has anyone ever heard of this before? • 🎬 R E V I E W ~ The Ring 2 💬 • For those who would like to see it, you should know that it's a horror film and if you don't like that, I'd advise you not to watch it. Simon doesn't appear in the first film; we only see him in the second, but in certain scenes. He plays Max Rourke, a publisher Rachel works for who is played by @naomiwatts 🙂 I enjoyed the story as a whole. Naomi Watts always gives a good performance of her character Rachel and was brilliant in this film. As mentioned above, we hardly see Simon at all, so it's hard to form an opinion about his role and his character isn't developed much. Even so, his performance remains interesting even if I don't really understand what his character brings to the story. THE RING 2 di Hideo Nakata Un sequel che prova a cavalcare il successo del primo capitolo, cambiando le carte in tavola e ricalcando certi aspetti del precedente. La prima parte è piuttosto carica di avvenimenti e idee, alcune non sviluppate appieno. Se nei primi minuti sembra che Rachel (Naomi Watts) debba fare i conti con le sue scelte, la trama prende una svolta inaspettata quando la minaccia di Samara si sposta di nuovo su Aidan (David Dorfman) e alla donna spetta, ancora una volta, indagare sul passato della bambina per salvare il figlio. La narrazione di Ehren Kruger ha molti spunti interessanti, alcuni ripresi dal sequel dell’originale giapponese, come la diffusione della videocassetta, diventata quasi una sfida tra ragazzi, cosa tra l’altro ripresa nel terzo capitolo, ma viene accantonata abbastanza in fretta, come anche i dubbi di Rachel legati al finale del primo. Qua viene abbandonato anche il modus operandi di Samara e la motivazione che la sprona, il che da una parte è un bene perché differenzia le due opere, ma dall’altra lascia la sensazione che qualcosa non torni. Di nuovo ricompare l’indagine, anche se non troppo importante e quello che si viene a scoprire su Samara è interessante, ma non aggiunge niente di nuovo al personaggio, anzi crea solo più dubbi. Seppur Nakata abbia una regia pulita e in grado di creare tensione, le situazioni horror mancano di mordente e la pellicola non riesce a trasmettere la giusta inquietudine.
