My new work for the Jeffrey Lee Pierce Session Project! Nearly ten years in the making, The Task Has Overwhelmed Us is the long-awaited fourth volume in The Jeffrey Lee Pierce Sessions Project series. Conceived in 2006 by the late Gun Club titan's guitarist Cypress Grove, the Project has always aimed to highlight Pierce as one of America's most fascinatingly influential singer-songwriters of the last century while propelling his outpourings into modern times by placing it in the hands of former collaborators, friends and fans. Taking song ideas without lyrics and words looking for musical settings gave rise to what Cypress Grove calls "Frankenstein songs". The stellar roll-call of contributors features the Project's original recurring core including Nick Cave, Debbie Harry, Mark Lanegan, Lydia Lunch, Youth, Jim Jones, Warren Ellis, Mark Stewart, Hugo Race, Cypress himself plus Mick Harvey and J.P. Shilo as The Amber Lights, even Jeffrey himself from original tapes. These are joined by new bloods including Dave Gahan, Suzie Stapleton, Duke Garwood, Pam Hogg, The Coathangers, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's Peter Hayes and Leah Shapiro, Humanist, The Walkabouts' Chris Eckman, Jozef van Wissem, Jim Jarmusch, Chantal Acda and Welsh space-rockers Sendelica with US vocalists Wonder and Dynamax Roberts. A few snapshots from the @pamhoggfashion LFW show in September - the medical theme seems appropriate in my current post-sickness state 💊 The first rainy day since my return to London, I headed to see what exciting delights might await me in Shoreditch. What a sentence. Despite a long day, a long wait outside the venue, followed by a late start, there I was, about to see my first Pam Hogg show! It was such an honour to be invited to the show (thank you @i.deapr 💋), as Pam Hogg is a cult Scottish designer, whose clothes have been worn by a whole army of badass women, including Debbie Harry, Siouxsie Sioux, Kylie Minogue, and Björk to name a few. This show was dedicated to the Irish icon, the late Sinead O’Connor. In her typical punk style, Hogg featured latex, leather and n*dity, as well as a more unexpected selection of flowy pieces in joyful rainbow hues. Pam Hogg Lost on the Highway 2023 Handpainted C Print , framed 50 x 60 cm Pam: "Resurfacing from times of devastating personal loss, creative hiatus and ill health, I rediscovered an image I'd previously connected with, but in a new light envisaged her now with the power of a woman's instinct, this time on a rollerball with her gently drooping antennae on search & on guard. It ignited a series of "Paradise" artworks. One of these was titled “Lost on the Highway”, a journey of lost souls, seeking out, connecting & bonding with each other. When I heard of the InFems project, & was asked If I had something I could offer to help the plight of women & girls all around the world, it felt predestined for The Lost Girls exhibition & War Child, a charity I have contributed to for many years." "This is not the first time Hogg’s work has been inspired by the singer (Sinead O’Connor).
