Well, not literally; sharks won’t carry your disco balls for you and are absolutely rubbish with a spreadsheet. She will never let you go on stage with your tentacles tucked into your skirt and likes to make sure you’re drinking enough water. Which, as a jelly on dry land, is key! Louise is a veteran of the @edfringe scene (she’s being doing it for 19 years 🤯) and also a writer, actor, and maker of theatre and film in her own right. Her work? Last week we had the absolute pleasure to spend a few days with a lovely bunch of creative people, getting together for Development sessions of our new show 'UP'. By now you might have heard that it is an object manipulation piece - a rare but powerful way to tell a story. In the coming weeks we'll sit down with VF's Artistic Director Dougie Irvine, to prepare a little video where he will talk a little bit about this intriguing artform and striking way of storytelling. One of the finest actors of his generation, David Hayman made his mark as an intense and skilled character actor starring as Jimmy Boyle in the film A Sense Of Freedom. He has had a marvellously successful career in film, tv and stage including the dark hit Taboo as Brace Co-starring with Tom Hardy and Tom Hollander. His glittering list of movies include Sid and Nancy (1986) Silent Scream (1990) Rob Roy (1995) The Jackal (1997) The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas (2008) and Bull (2021) among others. Recently his performances in the stage production Cyprus Avenue. All that and he founded Spirit Aid, a humanitarian charity dedicated to helping children whose lives are devastated by war, genocide, poverty, abuse, or lack of opportunity. And most amazing, for me, is that David and I were brought up in Drumchapel, a huge Glasgow housing scheme. How David found time to sit for me I don’t know.
