Went to Iowa over the weekend got a UHaul and brough the rest of my stuff back to Indiana, and also used the truck to pick up a gas range and a pair of twin beds given by a friend - getting all the use I can from an expensive truck rental. Hello everyone and welcome to my Lego room. We recently moved to Belgium from Las Vegas. Houses are a bit smaller here in Europe, but I got lucky with this one. It has a spare room I can claim for Lego building and displaying. I will be posting progress pics as I go along. The windows have UV blocking tint on them, so hopefully that will keep the fade in check. I will post videos once we start building sets. This room will have a sort/build table for my wife, my older daughter and I, and a smaller table for my younger daughter and her friends to build at. We have a considerable backlog of sets and I hope to post build videos and reviews as we go as well as new sets we buy. I spent hours into the wee morning last night going down memory lane on my phone, watching video after video of my babies, reminiscing the 8 years since I pushed Z out into the world. How fitting, considering that I similarly drew into solitude, strength, joy, sadness, and fear, on that life-changing night before pushing him out into the world on a Tuesday morning, just a couple hours after dawn. I love him. I love how he processes information. How he loves life so authentically, and how his deepest joy comes from making others laugh. On this day when I woke up a little sad about what I perceived I’d lost over the years he’s grown, our community received the type of gut-wrenching, heartbreaking, unimaginable news of loss that immediately shifted my focus and energy to remembering what a true *gift* every day is. Every. Single. F-ing. Day. Every day older is another day with his laughs. His smiles. His hugs. His drawings. And yes, his farts, endless poop jokes, and stinky feet. Thank you Universe. #StoryTime! Over the weekend, one of our officers located an unoccupied stolen vehicle in the parking lot of Target. 🚨While she was outside with the vehicle, another officer entered the store to obtain surveillance video. A male inside the store then exited with a shopping cart FULL of stolen merchandise. 🛒 When he saw the officer waiting at the (stolen) vehicle, he took off running. 🏃♂️ The suspect was eventually apprehended. He refused to provide his information, but did advise officers that he had just ingested fentanyl, so he was transported to the hospital to be evaluated. 🚑 Once at the hospital he identified himself, and it turns out he is from Federal Way, and has a felony warrant for possession of a stolen vehicle (are we seeing a pattern?). 🚙 He also was supposed to be on electronic home monitoring, but that really hinders his ability to steal from retail stores in stolen vehicles, so he cut off his ankle monitor! ✂️ In the meantime, officers searched the vehicle, and located additional items stolen from Target. SURPRISE! He had already stolen items from the Target in Olympia earlier in the day. 😑 The male was booked into jail for Possession of a Stolen Vehicle and Felony Theft after being medically cleared. Things to consider when deciding how and where to store all that LEGO: -How do your children interact with their LEGO? Do they have sets that they like to assemble and leave assembled? Do they play with a set once it is assembled? Do they mix and match and Frankenstein the pieces to make their own creations? -Do you want your children to be able to easily access their LEGO on their own? Or does it need to be out of reach and monitored while being played with? (If you have a crawling baby, you get it!) -Where do they play with their LEGO? Their bedroom? The family room? A playroom? -How much LEGO do they have? How much space do you want to allocate to LEGO storage? ...and lastly, this will come as a shock to someone, I’m sure... -Do your kids even play with their LEGO?... not all kids are LEGO kids, and that’s okay! Maybe your kiddos prefer to build forts, race their hot wheels on race tracks, or conduct science experiments. It’s easy for us to assume every kid will want to (fill in the blank: ride bikes, build forts, dig in the mud, play with LEGO) but not all do. Annnnnd if you’ve been a parent for more than a decade, maybe your kiddos have moved on from LEGO and prefer board games, video games, or hanging out with friends. Just a few things to consider ☺️ After answering these questions, you should have a clearer picture of how and where you want to organize your kids’ LEGO.
